We are a group of male & female instructors who were previously competitive swimmers during our younger days. Since young, we have been taught to swim with the proper and correct strokes so we were able to swim effortlessly. If you can't stay afloat, the problem is almost never strength.
It's tension. The more you fight the water, the more it fights back.

Floating is a skill. And like any skill, it can be learned with the right steps and someone who knows how to teach it.

Once you get it, everything else in swimming gets easier.

If your freestyle kick feels like a lot of effort for very little speed, it's not your fitness.
It's almost always one of three things. Stiff ankles, locked feet, or kicking from the knees instead of the hip.

The good news is none of that is permanent. It just hasn't been trained yet.

Fix the kick and the whole stroke changes.

Yes, you can learn to swim from YouTube videos.

But you'll never know what you're doing wrong. And bad habits repeated long enough become really hard to fix.

A coach sees what you can't feel. That's the difference.

Even experienced swimmers have coaches. Not because they're beginners. Because no one can see themselves from the outside.

If you want to actually improve, not just survive in the water, you need someone watching.

If freestyle leaves your shoulders sore and your neck stiff, the problem is almost never fitness.
It's technique.

Most swimmers never get it corrected because no one watches them closely enough. So they keep grinding through the same movements and wonder why it hurts.

Good technique means swimming farther with less effort and no pain. That's the goal.

Nobody tells you this when you sign your kid up for swimming lessons.
Week one they're nervous. A few weeks in, they have friends they don't want to let down. They start packing their own bag. Showing up without being asked.

If your breaststroke feels slow and tiring, your kick is probably the problem.

Most swimmers push their legs straight out and wonder why they’re barely moving forward. That’s because the water is being pushed sideways instead of behind them.

Here’s what a proper breaststroke kick should actually look like:

Heels come up first. Feet turn outward. Then the legs snap back together to create power and push the body forward.

A lot of swimmers also lose speed because of stiff ankles and flat feet during the kick. Without the right foot position, you lose most of the propulsion before the glide even starts.

Once the technique clicks, everything changes. You glide farther, breathe easier, and stop wasting energy every lap.
