Yes, Life and Training Is Stressful — No, You’re Not Too Stressed To Progress
By Coach Ellie

Work deadlines, bad sleep, family stuff - none of it stays outside the gym. There's only one body handling all of it, and it doesn't separate "training stress" from "life stress."

Come train anyway. You might surprise yourself and perform better than you expected. It may feel harder than usual, but that's better than not training at all. And if needed, we can adjust the program - but don't count yourself out before you even try.

Are Singaporeans Getting Enough of Their Exercise Macros?
By Coach Marvin

Think of your weekly exercise like planning your nutrition macros. Most Singaporeans are heavy on cardio, or "carbohydrates" - walking to the MRT, hustling at work, chasing a ball on weekends. That's 85% of us hitting our overall activity numbers. But strength training, our "protein," is where 2 in 3 of us fall short.

That doesn't mean cardio isn't important, nor does it mean spending 100% of your time on strength training is better. The idea is to prioritise what you need to get enough of first, then fill in the rest.

The Deadlift Triangle: Stop Yanking Your Deadlift!
By Coach Marvin

Pulling the slack out of the bar is not just about removing the small gap between the bar and the plates. It is also about creating tension throughout the lifter’s body before the bar leaves the floor.

In this video, I use the idea of the “deadlift triangle” — the bar, the shoulders, and the hips — to explain how these three points need to be connected into one rigid system. I also explain what happens when you yank the bar too early, why the lifter and barbell may still behave as two separate systems, and how that can disturb your position and make the pull less efficient.

What High Creatinine and Low eGFR Numbers Mean for Lifters and Creatine Users
By Coach Shaun

Your doctor flagged high creatinine or low eGFR numbers on your last health screening. If you train regularly or take creatine, that "abnormal" result might just be down to you carrying more muscle mass or supplementing with creatine, not compromised renal function.

Here's what's going on with these numbers, why your doctor is right to raise the alarm, and how to know the difference.

Episode 6 - Coaching and Programming Philosophies: A Conversation with Clinton Lee & JJ Ng

Clinton Lee (Elevate Barbell, President of Powerlifting Singapore) and JJ Ng (Battalion Barbell, VP of Powerlifting Singapore) join us to talk coaching and programming.

We get into how they onboard new clients, why they use RPE, how they teach it and calibrate it over time, the range of programming approaches out there from Starting Strength to RTS to higher-volume systems, and why the coach-client relationship matters as much as, if not more than, the program itself.
