The Mission Specialist Defender configuration is designed for more precise control of the vehicle position and orientation, heavier payloads, and demanding intervention, such as rendering unexploded ordinance safe or cleaning nets for offshore fish farms. With seven thrusters, the Defender is able to move in any direction, and maintain active pitch to face the vehicle in an upward or downward orientation. The addition of third party control and navigation software from Greensea Systems or Seebyte makes the Defender a popular configuration for dangerous or heavy-duty missions.

VideoRay is entering its fifth season with the wildly popular television series Shark Men which airs on the National Geographic Channel. A few years ago VideoRay was selected by OCEARCH, led by Chris Fischer, which facilitates unprecedented research by supporting leading researchers and institutions seeking to attain groundbreaking data on the biology and health of sharks, in conjunction with basic research on shark life history and migration. To do this they must catch and release these enormous fish (mainly Great Whites and Tigers) which is where the VideoRay comes into play - the ROV is sent down as the sharks are released ensuring a healthy and safe departure.
