It's been 7 years since AEP was founded, & I am heartened that the past year has been one with new partnerships, reconnections, & broadening of horizons.

A particular highlight was the opportunity to choreograph for 'Hope Afloat', the Mediacorp Channel 8 TV series. I drew upon my background in ballet & contemporary dance, and learnt about paradance from Kelvin Toh - we had first worked together on 'The Merry Widow' by the Singapore Lyric Opera, in 2004.

Preparation hours were long, the artistes' schedules were tight, but we were determined, and it all came together beautifully on set & on screen. I am grateful.

Photos are from our day on set at Mediacorp, at end-April. The final photo shows the opening tableau I had nicknamed 'Queen Jasmine', featuring artiste Jasmine Sim & ensemble dancers at the start of a dance segment. This choreo did not make it on screen, but perhaps we may look forward to the 'director's cut', sometime!

A glimpse of a couple of the dance scenes from the final episode of 'Hope Afloat' - Tasha Low & Jasmine Sim + ensemble dancers rehearsing the finale dance, and of Jasmine Sim rehearsing her PK solo.

Thanks to the artistes, and dancers Wan Ching & Justino, & Ellen & Nan Tian from .sg, for trusting my choreographic process. Kelvin Toh the project's dance consultant, provided overall direction on Mediacorp's vision of these dances.

Bravo to Jasmine Sim for her confidence during the ballet teaching scene on Episode 14 of Hope Afloat! I coached her on some ballet basics & suggested a few things to say to students in class, back in February, & am heartened that she presented herself well during filming.

The students in this scene include dancesport students of J&C Dance Academy .sg Thanks to Kelvin Toh of Nuevo Dance Fitness who invited us to work with him on this project for Mediacorp Channel 8. Screenshots courtesy of mewatch
