Mathematics was created with the purpose of helping us solve problems. It is a language of precision, based upon logic and heuristics that enable us to work our way through complex situations with clarity.

And amongst all the concepts in Mathematics, Algebra has one of the most pivotal effects on a learner's journey.

It does not just determine how well a learner progresses in Mathematics. It can also light up or quietly extinguish one's love for the subject. This is especially so for those in secondary school and beyond.

Not because Algebra is the hardest thing in Mathematics. But because it is one of the most foundational. 𝗔𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝟴𝟱% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 in secondary school Mathematics, from Sec 1 to Sec 4 and beyond, are built upon Algebra. 𝗜𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘂𝗽 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲, in equations, graphs, functions, problem-solving, and almost every topic that comes after it. When a learner doesn't have a clear, connected understanding of Algebra from the ground up, those gaps follow them quietly for years.

For years, Berwin watched learners work hard and still feel lost. Not because they weren't capable. But because they were never shown the full picture. Many resources gave them concepts, methods, and questions, but not the connection between them. Not the roadmap. Not the why behind the what.

That is why 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙡𝙜𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖 𝘽𝙡𝙪𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙩: 𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨.

Over more than 15 years of working with learners, Berwin kept noticing the same thing.

Many of them were trying so hard. Showing up, doing the work, putting in the effort. But somewhere along the way, 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙖𝙨𝙣'𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜.

And more often than not, it wasn't the complex stuff that got them stuck.

𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁.

Without a solid foundation, everything they tried to build on top would eventually wobble. And what made it even harder was that once learners moved on to the next level, the books from their earlier years were usually lost or set aside. So even when they knew what they needed to work on, they couldn't find something to help them go back and rebuild.

In his early years as a mentor, Berwin had to piece together notes from various assessment books and guidebooks, because there wasn't one single consolidated resource that did the job he was looking for.

So Berwin 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻.

Through many rounds of iteration, the materials he developed helped learners under his mentorship achieve stellar results. And more importantly, rediscover their joy and love for learning.

His hope was always to share this with more learners. And so he put together a series of guides paired with curated practice, designed to help learners at any level pick it up and work their way to mastery.

He calls this: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙡𝙪𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙩 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨.

Within it are sub-series each targeting a specific topic in Mathematics. At the heart of it is creating a tangible resource that makes the journey to mastery feel accessible, and a little less lonely, every step of the way.

And they are starting with 𝗔𝗹𝗴𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮 :)
