The Naval Base community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ms Sugadha Anandan last night, 2 August 2021. Sugadha was a proud alumna of Naval Base School, and returned to serve as an English teacher and Head of Department later on. She was also the founding President of the schoolโs Alumni Association.
Needless to say, Sugadhaโs commitment to Naval Base Secondary School was a lifelong one. Remembered by her students and colleagues as a feisty lady who was always ready to share a laugh, even at her own expense, Sugadhaโs presence in the school was larger than life.
Navalites might be surprised to learn that our long-serving Lead Teacher (PE), Ms Edna Tay, was once Sugadhaโs colleague in the English department. She shared, โSu was a wonderful and nurturing Head of Department. I remembered when I first started out, I was apprehensive when given English and Literature classes. Su gave me lots of advice and encouragement to overcome my fears and build up my confidence. She will always hold a special place in my heartโ.
Even in her final days, Sugadha was energetically wondering about how she could further support the school. Being the teacher she was, every interaction with her was a lesson in generosity and gratitude. Sugadha was steadfast in following through with her commitment to the school, which will continue to be a beneficiary of her legacy and kindness in the time to come.
As we keep a lookout for what the school community will do to celebrate Sugadhaโs life and achievements, let us take some time to thank her for everything she has done for her beloved Naval Base School.
Rest in peace, Sugadha, and we will always remember you fondly. Thank you for showing us what Enitamur in Altiora truly means - we will strive to Be Our Best!
