Jolo Mendoza made sure his first appearance in the TIC Balagbagan sa Yishun Season 1 would be remembered, delivering an impressive all-around performance to help Bakal Hoopers defeat 281/Bangis, 63-53.

Playing his first game of the season, Jolo showed no signs of needing time to settle in. He finished with 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals, shooting an efficient 5-of-10 from the field. His impact went beyond scoring, as he battled on the boards, disrupted 281/Bangis defensively, and gave Bakal Hoopers another reliable presence on both ends of the floor. His impressive debut earned him Best Player of the Game honors.

The game, however, was far from an easy night for Bakal. They opened with an 11-6 advantage before 281/Bangis responded strongly in the second quarter, outscoring Bakal 19-15 to cut the lead to just one point, 26-25, at halftime. With the game still up for grabs, Bakal Hoopers came out of the break with their best basketball of the night.

The third quarter proved to be the turning point. Bakal exploded for 22 points while holding 281/Bangis to just 7, transforming a one-point halftime lead into a commanding 48-32 advantage entering the final period. 281/Bangis refused to go quietly, putting together a 21-point fourth quarter in an attempt to fight their way back, but Bakal had already built enough separation and stayed composed down the stretch to secure the 10-point victory.

Jolo wasn’t alone in carrying the offense. Dungca also scored 12 points, including two three-pointers, while Alas contributed 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. Bakal’s activity on defense played a major role in the victory as the team collected 20 steals, repeatedly creating extra possessions and preventing 281/Bangis from establishing a consistent offensive rhythm.

For 281/Bangis, Bautista led the way with 11 points and 6 rebounds, while Harmon added 10 points and 8 rebounds. Bajada and Henry Jr. contributed 8 points apiece, while Bercide chipped in 7. Their fourth-quarter push showed plenty of fight, but the damage from Bakal’s dominant third period proved too much to overcome.

For Bakal Hoopers, the victory was another display of their depth, but the night belonged to their debuting standout. Jolo stepped onto the TIC Balagbagan court for the first time and immediately showed what he can bring to the team. With 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals in his debut, Jolo didn’t need an adjustment period—he simply came in ready to make an impact.

Kumpanyeros finally broke into the win column in the TIC Balagbagan sa Yishun Season 1, cruising to a convincing 62-40 victory over Microns behind a complete team performance highlighted by the all-around brilliance of Oblak.

While his scoring may not have topped the charts, Oblak proved that winning isn’t just about putting the ball in the basket. He earned Best Player of the Game honors after filling up the stat sheet with 5 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 blocks, and 3 steals, controlling the game on both ends of the floor and making his presence felt in every aspect of the contest. His rebounding gave Kumpanyeros extra possessions, his passing kept the offense flowing, while his rim protection and defensive instincts made life difficult for Microns throughout the night.

Kumpanyeros established control early, taking a 13-6 first-quarter lead before both teams matched each other with 16 points apiece in the second period. Any hopes of a Microns comeback quickly disappeared after halftime as Kumpanyeros completely took over the third quarter, outscoring Microns 18-3 behind suffocating defense, relentless rebounding, and efficient ex*****on on the offensive end. By the start of the fourth quarter, the outcome was already well in hand as both teams traded 15 points to close the game.

The victory was fueled by a balanced offensive attack led by Panayas, who exploded for a game-high 26 points on an outstanding 13-of-17 shooting (76%), consistently finishing inside and taking advantage of every opportunity. Cutillar provided solid support with 8 points, while San Pedro and Carpo added 6 points each. Kumpanyeros also displayed excellent teamwork, finishing with 23 assists while dominating the rebounding battle with 50 total rebounds, allowing them to control the pace of the game from start to finish.

Microns struggled to find their rhythm against Kumpanyeros’ aggressive defense, shooting just 28% from the field while committing costly mistakes during the decisive third quarter. Loo Choon Phei led Microns with 16 points, Ryan Pimentel contributed 9, and Daniel Wah Dian Wei chipped in 7, but they couldn’t generate enough offense to keep pace once Kumpanyeros tightened the screws defensively.

After several difficult outings to open the season, Kumpanyeros finally found the breakthrough they had been searching for. With Panayas providing the scoring punch and Oblak orchestrating the game with one of the most complete performances of the tournament, Kumpanyeros not only celebrated their first victory but also showed the balanced style of basketball that could make them a dangerous team moving forward.
