🧘♀️ Flip Grip in Kneeling Pigeon -- The flip grip in Seated Pigeon is already a good way to warm up the shoulders and open the chest.
But the real challenge is flipping the grip all the way to the heel while in a kneeling Pigeon. That requires a much deeper backbend, especially through the upper back. Compared with the usual Seated Pigeon variation, where you can grab the toe, grabbing the heel gives you much less tolerance and much less room for error.
To be honest, this is my first time successfully getting the heel in a flip grip in Kneeling Pigeon. 🙌
After practicing yoga for so many years, I’m still discovering there is so much more to learn.
Progress is not always about going deeper into the same pose. Sometimes, it’s about being able to explore a different variation of the pose as your body slowly becomes more capable.
A few years ago, I stopped chasing fancy, high-difficulty poses. I’m middle-aged now 😅 — I obviously can’t compete with those 20-something girls who are one generation younger than me!
But whenever I see aunties in their 50s, 60s, or even 70s doing yoga better than I can on my Instagram feed, I suddenly feel young again! 😂
So yes, age is not an excuse.
It’s not: “This pose is too hard. I can’t even try.”
And lately, I’ve discovered another challenge of middle age: weight gain. 😂 I’m making a little more effort to manage my body weight, because let’s be honest… yoga is not exactly easier when there’s extra weight to carry around!
Keep practicing. Keep exploring.
There’s always another variation waiting to be discovered. 🪷🙏
