It is a sad day this happened in Singapore. I have a student from the school. I quickly picked up my phone to text him.

Self defense is not a game. Make sure your instructor is teaching you right and that you are learning it right.
4 youths, aged 15 to 20, arrested after slashing 15-year-old at Toa Payoh The victim was conscious when he was sent to the hospital.
Old but gold. Training has to be realistic.
Good sharing on stance and their history of it.
Students should know what and why they are learning it.
However, other than in performance and grading, these weapons are not commonly found.
Are they still useful for practical scenarios?

I was full of emotions watching Ip Man 4. Afterall, it was Ip Man 1 that started me on my martial arts journey in 2008. And now, more than 10 years later, I have progressed so much and am the first Apprentice Instructor in SEA under Tommy Carruthers.
Spoiler alert: In Ip Man 4, there was a scene that he punches the villian in mid air as the villian was falling down. The next scene shows that he suffered a broken rib. Not one of the most memorable scenes for regular movie goers, but it is the hardest one inch punch to execute.
The one inch punch on a unsupported target. This short clip was something I did awhile back when my students were crazy about trying these fanciful moves.
