This week's run report comes from visiting parkrunner from Australia, David, who joined the East Coast parkrun community for event 502. Read on for David's reflections on a hot and humid Singapore morning, a friendly welcome and the unique experience of parkrunning by the bay 👇
This week, I had the pleasure of participating in East Coast parkrun in Singapore while visiting on holidays from Australia.
The 07.30 start is a bit of a change from back home but seeing all the locals out exercising in the early morning, well there is good reason for the early start.
The event (no. 502) took place on a beautiful but very hot and humid morning, with temperatures hovering around 30°C. I was sweating just getting to the start line after the friendly and welcoming event briefing!
Around 120 participants from all around the globe, including the USA, Cyprus, the UK, and across Australia attended along with the friendly locals. Although there were no milestones to celebrate this week, it was wonderful to see many newcomers running their very first parkrun.
The flat course offered lovely views over the water and the ships in the bay, with some shade from the trees—though the humidity certainly made the return leg feel a bit warmer.
The run director and the volunteer team created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and many participants stayed afterward to chat and celebrate together. It was lovely to meet so many new people after their walk, jog or run.
Overall, it was a fantastic event that I'd highly recommend to anyone visiting Singapore. And to the locals, your volunteering helps keep this wonderful community event thriving. Thanks to everyone who joined in and made it a great morning.
