Dear Parents and Students,
With our quarterly grading now concluded, I would first like to congratulate all students on their hard work and perseverance. Every grading marks another milestone in each student’s martial arts journey.

This grading also marks an unfortunate milestone. It will be the last grading conducted at our Holland School, as we will be closing the school upon the completion of our current tenancy at the end of September.

Many of you will remember that our original headquarters was at The Grandstand (the former Turf City) until the end of 2023. To continue serving our students, we established two locations: Binjai Park and Pandan Valley.
While Holland School has given us many wonderful memories, it was clear from the beginning that the school would face challenges sustaining itself as a standalone location. Student numbers have remained below what is needed to support operating costs, while manpower challenges have continued. Rather than closing earlier, we chose to honour our tenancy agreement and serve our students until its natural conclusion.

I have always believed that we are one school and one team, regardless of how many physical locations we operate. That belief remains unchanged. I warmly invite all Holland students to continue their martial arts journey at our Bukit Timah or Toh Tuck schools. The same values, curriculum, instructors, and community are there to support you.

As we close this chapter, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported Holland School. Seneca once wrote, “Life, if well lived, is long enough.” Our time at Holland may have been short, but the memories and experiences we shared will always remain.

Looking ahead, 2027 marks the 20th anniversary of our headquarters, and we are already planning several initiatives to celebrate this milestone. Let us continue this journey together as one school and one team.

Every year, we release a simple calendar filled with key tentative events. But have you noticed something that changes annually? Yes—the featured photo on the cover!

Let’s take a look at the story behind this year’s calendar!

WHO: Meet Jamian Chen Junyang - a cheerful & determined young member of our competition team. Jamian began his TKD journey with us in Oct 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when training came with many restrictions & uncertainties. Despite those unusual beginnings, he persevered & continued to develop steadily.

WHAT: Jamian is captured executing a front kick - 1 of the very first kicking techniques every TKD student learns. Although simple in appearance, the front kick is a fundamental technique that develops balance, coordination, timing & control. It appears throughout colour belt training, Poomsae & practical self-defence applications, reminding us that mastery is built upon doing the basics exceptionally well.

WHEN: The photo was taken in Dec 2025.

WHERE: This action photograph was captured during the 11th Daedo TKD Open Championships, 1 of the region’s largest international TKD competitions.

WHY: Although Jamian is 1 of the younger members of our competition team, he consistently demonstrates remarkable composure, discipline & self-control. His attitude reminds us that character is not determined by age. As we often tell our students, age is just a number. Respect, resilience v humility can be developed from the very beginning of one’s TKD journey.

HOW: Now 8+ years old, Jamian has begun travelling overseas with the team to compete in international tournaments. Beyond gaining competition experience, these opportunities build confidence, independence & mental resilience. At J H Kim TKD, we believe our goal is not simply to develop champions, but people of good character. Jamian’s journey is a reflection of that philosophy, & we look forward to seeing him continue to grow both as an athlete & as a young person.
