❗️Do you think that after submitting your documents for temporary or permanent residence in Slovenia, all that’s left to do is wait for the decision? Not always.

Many applicants are invited to an interview, and in some cases, it becomes the deciding stage of the process.

📌 Who is most likely to be invited for an interview?

✅ People applying for permanent residence or citizenship after living in Slovenia for an extended period.
✅ Applicants whose documents, period of residence, or other circumstances raise questions for the authorities.
✅ Those who need to confirm that the center of their life is genuinely in Slovenia.
✅ Those applying through family reunification who need to prove that their relationship is genuine.
✅ Sometimes, applicants are selected as part of a routine check, even when all the documents are in perfect order.

💬 What questions might you be asked?

— Why did you decide to live in Slovenia?
— Where do you work, and what is your occupation?
— What did you have for breakfast or dinner yesterday?
— What are your favorite foods? What are your spouse’s favorite foods?
— What illnesses has your spouse had?
— What gifts has your spouse given you?
— Where do you usually travel together?
— What family traditions do you have?
— When did your relationship begin?
— What is your spouse’s mother’s name? Which other relatives do you know?
— What was the first day of your visit to Slovenia like?
— Can you describe your home?

The authorities want to make sure that:

✔️ You genuinely live in Slovenia.
✔️ Your answers match the information in your application.
✔️ Your answers are consistent with those given by your family members.

💡 My advice: don’t try to memorize answers. Instead, review important dates, places of work, and previous addresses beforehand, and answer honestly, calmly, and confidently.

A mediation agreement is a written document in which the parties to a conflict record the agreements reached with the help of a mediator.

Why is it needed?

🔹 1. To formalize agreements legally
The agreement makes oral arrangements official and clear for both parties. It reflects the will of the parties, not the will of the court.

🔹 2. To prevent new conflicts
Clearly defined terms help avoid future disputes: who does what, by when, and in what manner.

🔹 3. To save time and money
Mediation and an agreement make it possible to avoid going to court or to resolve a dispute more quickly.

🔹 4. To preserve relationships
Unlike court proceedings, mediation focuses on compromise rather than on “one side winning.”

🔹 5. To give the agreement enforceable force
In some cases, a mediation agreement can be approved by a court and then becomes binding.

🔹 6. It also prevents the repeated emergence and consideration of the same dispute. Once certified, the mediation agreement has the force of a final act, which prevents reapplying to the court.

Where is a mediation agreement used?

It is commonly applied in:

💼 commercial disputes
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 family conflicts (divorce, children, alimony)
🏠 housing matters
⚖️ labor disputes
🤝 corporate conflicts

🧾 1. Minimum wage increase in 2026

In 2026, the minimum wage in Slovenia will be increased by approximately 15.97%, which means €1,482 gross (approximately €1,000 net by agreement).

📊 2. Renovation of the “flat tax” system for sole proprietorships

In 2026, there were changes to the standard expenses system (flat tax for sole proprietors):
• Higher limits and new rules for inclusion in the standard expenses system (up to €120,000).
• Progressive tax rates instead of a flat rate: e.g. 20% up to a certain threshold and 35% above it (from 2026 onwards) for full limited liability companies.

📑 3. Electronic invoicing (e-invoices) – mandatory from 2028

Slovenia has adopted a law for the mandatory business-to-business exchange of electronic invoices (B2B):
• From 1 January 2028, it will be mandatory for all business entities to exchange electronic invoices in a structured format (e.g. XML), in accordance with the EU ViDA standards. Paper invoices will only be allowed for consumers or in international cases if the parties agree otherwise. 

📣 4. Winter bonus for employees Act

The new law introduces mandatory winter bonus for employees, which is a new employment-related benefit (in addition to vacation and Christmas bonus). Employers will have to report payments on the REK-O form. 

🧑‍💼 6. Other important legislative changes (already known or in progress)

• Legal proposal for an amendment to the Companies Act: brings the transposition of several EU directives, greater business transparency and changes to the thresholds for the size of companies. 
• Access to the register of beneficial owners limited – due to the judgment of the European Court of Justice, public access is limited in accordance with the ZPPDFT-2C. 

📌 What does this mean for entrepreneurs and employers?

✔️ Higher labor costs due to the increase in the minimum wage. 
✔️ Tax changes for s.p. and self-employed – more complex progressive taxation. 
✔️ Preparation for mandatory e-invoices by 2028. 
✔️ Administrative obligations for winter holiday and reporting. 
✔️ Follow new EU directives that are being transposed into Slovenian law.
