What is love?

Can you love anything you do not know? No. Love comes from knowledge. I love God because I know about God. I love a rose because I know about roses. Love comes from knowledge. Knowledge comes through experience or action. Universal love also comes from experience and knowledge of the universe i.e. God.

Love is not a mere word. It is a state of perceiving your oneness with the object you love. As long as one is separated from the object of love, you think of it , but once you are united with it, you do not think of it anymore. Universal love is the state when you look at anything and perceive unity within it. This can be done by erasing all thoughts in the memory bank or by making your memory as big as the universe.

Paramahamsa Yoganandaji sang a song, “I Am the Bubble, Make Me the Sea”. The bubble is afraid to lose its identity. The bubble, a tiny drop with a little air within, is afraid of losing its identity. When the bubble bursts, it merges in the sea. The bubble exists in the sea, is sustained by the sea and will merge in the sea. Nevertheless, the the bubble is afraid: “ What will happen to me ?” In this song, Yoganandaji is saying, “You and I are never apart.” We are always one with the Divine. No separation. Not even for a single moment does separation exist.
The ocean can exist without the waves or the bubbles. The bubbles and waves cannot exist without the sea. God exists without creation but creation cannot exist without God. Creation is in the lap of God. Without the lap of God, there is no creation. We are all united with God but due to our ignorance, our extrovert state, and our restlessness, we are not able to perceive it. The two physical eyes are extrovert, the eyes of duality; they keep us engrossed in the duality of good and bad, pleasure and pain and punya and papa ( merits and demerits). The inner eye of wisdom, the ajna chakra, is beyond duality.
