💡 Technical Diving Tip: Your Pre-Dive Check Is Part of the Dive
No matter how many dives you have logged, always take the time to perform a systematic pre-dive equipment check.
Before entering the water, make sure to verify:
✔️ Cylinder pressure in all tanks.
✔️ Valves are fully open (unless your team follows a different, established protocol).
✔️ Both regulators breathe smoothly under load.
✔️ Hose routing is correct and all valves are easily accessible.
✔️ Wing and dry suit inflators are working properly.
✔️ SPG readings remain stable after taking a few breaths. A sudden pressure drop may indicate a partially closed valve or restricted gas flow.
🎯 Technical Insight
A valve that isn't fully open may still seem perfectly fine during a surface check. However, under high gas demand—such as during heavy exertion or gas sharing—it can significantly restrict gas flow, turning a minor oversight into a serious problem.
Most diving incidents are not caused by equipment failure, but by small details that were overlooked before the dive.
