On Wednesday 18th March, 2026, the Eastern Regional Office of the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) conducted a public awareness campaign on political tolerance, positive participation, and drug abuse at Saint James Secondary School in Kenema.

Representing the Regional Commissioner, Pastor Momoh Bockarie, a team led by the Research and Monitoring Officer engaged pupils and teachers in discussions aimed at promoting democratic values and addressing the growing concern of drug abuse among young people.

The Programmes Officer Amadu Wurie highlighted the global challenge of drug abuse among youth, emphasizing the need to engage schools in educating pupils on its dangers. He urged teachers to orientate pupils on the physical and psychological risks associated with substance abuse and to foster supportive environments where pupils can seek guidance.

He noted that preventive education, counseling, and community partnerships are essential in reducing drug abuse.

NCD – DAY 1 OF WEEK 3 OF ITS 2026 OUTREACH SERIES IN THE WESTERN AREA

Today, Wednesday 11th March 2026, the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) continues its engagement with the public as part of its outreach activities in the Western Area. The focus of this phase of the engagement is on drug abuse and political tolerance.

We are all aware of how pervasive drug abuse has become, especially among young people. The NCD therefore deems it necessary to sensitize and educate the youth about the dangers and consequences of drug abuse so that they can make informed decisions and refrain from engaging in such practices.

Another important issue the team is addressing is the need to promote political tolerance. Citizens are encouraged to respect and embrace one another even when they hold divergent political views. While our opinions on specific issues may differ, and our approaches to addressing the many challenges in governance may not always be the same, our shared objective remains the same: to work towards the development and progress of Sierra Leone.

The outreach team engaged citizens in these communities, emphasizing the importance of good citizenship and responsible behaviour. The message of the Commission is simple: “Stop drug abuse and embrace one another, even when you do not share the same political views.”

The Commission will continue to reiterate the need for citizens, especially young people, to avoid dangerous substances and to promote political tolerance. These values are essential for the development and consolidation of Sierra Leone’s democracy.

Let us continue to engage and guide our youth to become responsible and patriotic citizens.

NCD – DAY 1 of WEEK 2 OF ITS 2026 OUTREACH SERIES IN THE WESTERN AREA

Today, Wednesday 4th March 2026, the Outreach Team of the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) engaged citizens along Siaka Stevens Street and the PZ area to raise awareness on two very important issues that are crucial to the safety and peaceful coexistence of our beloved country, Sierra Leone.
The team focused on the dangers of drug abuse and the virtues of political tolerance. These twin challenges have plagued our country, particularly the youth. The Commission has made it a priority to reach every corner of the nation to address these two pressing concerns.
We have a responsibility to guide and orient the minds of young people so they become fully aware of the significance of their role as future leaders when they assume positions of trust. Their journey toward leadership begins now; therefore, we must not turn a blind eye to their way of life. Reaching them at this early stage will help us nurture responsible citizenship and instill positive values that will shape a better Sierra Leone.

Today, Thursday 26th February 2026, we at the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) engaged youths and business people around PMB and Texaco Lorry Park using our Green, White, and Blue Outside Broadcast van. Through this outreach, we broadcast jingles promoting political tolerance and raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, sensitising the public on the need to embrace one another despite political differences and to refrain from the use of harmful substances.
The engagement proved to be impactful, as community members warmly received our messages, applauded the initiative, and commended the work of the Commission.
We continue to encourage the people of Sierra Leone, especially the youth, who represent the future leadership of our country to stay away from narcotics and reject political intolerance. We must embrace unity, combine our energies, and work together to build our nation. Sierra Leone is all we have; we must handle her with care, like an egg.

25/02/2026

The National Commission for Democracy (NCD) has reactivated its community outreach activities to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and political intolerance.
Through its public address systems, the Commission has been broadcasting jingles focused on drug abuse prevention and the promotion of political tolerance. The outreach team will engage communities twice a week, and this week the team will visit Calaba Town, Wellington, and Texaco.
The purpose of this programme is to educate the citizenry, especially young people, on responsible conduct during active participation in the political process, and to emphasise the need to avoid drug use, which can be harmful to their well-being.
The consumption of substances such as Tramadol, Kush, ecstasy, and others poses a serious threat to the peace and security we currently enjoy.
NCD remains committed to encouraging Sierra Leoneans to be responsible citizens and to contribute meaningfully to the growth and consolidation of our democracy.
