Secretariat welcomed the Science for Africa Foundation’s Community & Public Engagement (CPE) team, led by Lillian Mutengu, Senior Program Manager for Science Communication & Engagement, to Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar, Senegal. The teams discussed strengthening Science Communication and Community & Public Engagement across all strands under Pillar 4 of DELTASAfrica.

Congratulations to Dr Fatimata Bintou Sall, hashtag Postdoctoral fellow, on being selected as one of the champions of the new cohort of African Voices of Science: The Path to Zero Malaria, an initiative led by Speak Up Africa.

The African Voices of Science: The Path to Zero Malaria cohort brings together scientists from Benin, Burkina Faso, and Senegal, recognized for their expertise in research, public health, and the fight against malaria.

Dr Fatimata Bintou Sall:

''Through this cohort, I look forward to sharing my research, contributing to evidence-informed advocacy, and promoting solutions that respond to the needs of the most vulnerable populations.

I am also pleased to join fellow experts from Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, and Senegal, united by the belief that African scientific collaboration is key to accelerating progress towards a malaria-free world.

PhD fellow, Ndey Fatou Drammeh; attended the Malaria Centre’s two-day retreat, held from 1-2 July 2026 in UK.

The meeting brought together researchers from LSHTM, MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM, and Imperial College London.

''It was a great pleasure to represent the MARCAD Plus Programme: capacity building in the fight against Malaria and NTDs during USTTB Scientific days" Prof Safiatou Niaré, MARCAD Plus PI in Mali.

fellow, Dr Majidah, presented part of her research findings on '' Genetic diversity and signatures of selection in ivermectin target glutamate-gated chloride channel of Anopheles populations in sub-Saharan Africa '' at the MRC Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine Genomics Interest Group meeting.

'' My study provides one of the first continent-wide assessments of genetic variation in the ivermectin target gene among major African malaria vectors. It establishes an important baseline for future studies and contributes to global efforts aimed at preserving the effectiveness of ivermectin as part of integrated malaria control and elimination programmes. With these findings showing that the target gene remains largely unchanged despite long-term exposure from NTD use, these strengthen confidence in ivermectin as a promising complementary tool for reducing malaria transmission.'' A team from Science for Africa Foundation, led by Denis Chopera, Senior Programme Manager, together with the Finance and MEAL members, visited the MARCAD Plus Secretariat.
The visit provided an opportunity for the MARCAD Plus fellows at the University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar ( UCAD) to present the progress of their research projects.
