We heard that the Sheikh sitting at the doorstep is one of the Murids of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass (RTA). It is said that he has been sitting in this manner since the passing of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass (RTA) in 1975—about 51 years ago.

According to the story, when the news of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass’s (RTA) passing reached him, he refused to accept it. He reportedly said that his Sheikh had not told him that he was going to die; rather, he had told him that he was travelling and would return.

Since then, whenever you visit Medina Baye and go for the Ziyara of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass’s (RTA) house, you may find him sitting at the doorstep, waiting for the return of his beloved master.

Just look at the extent of this love, loyalty and attachment to a beloved Sheikh. Truly, the love of the righteous can leave a lasting mark on the heart.

It was later clarified that he does leave the place for his normal activities, such as going to pray, before returning to sit there.

May Allah, by the Barakah and Jāh of Maulana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass (RTA), grant us our heart's desires, increase us in sincere love for the Prophet ﷺ and the righteous, and bless us with steadfastness upon the path.
