🎓 UNMAS/ Nations Support Office in Somalia - UNSOS recently delivered an intensive Training of Trainers (T o T) course on Explosive Hazard Awareness Training & Improvised Explosive Device Disposal in Hirshabelle State to African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia-AUSSOM officers.

These certified trainers have already deployed to Forward Operating Bases to train their own units on the ground. To ensure long-term impact, UNMAS continues to monitor, mentor, and conduct targeted scenario-based refresher training for these instructors in the field.

This creates a vital force multiplier—strengthening force protection and operational readiness for AUSSOM troops where access is most constrained, while optimizing resources for maximum efficiency.

"Our primary goal was to equip these officers not just with technical counter-IED skills, but with the confidence to teach. Seeing them pass this life-saving knowledge to their comrades in high-risk areas—backed by ongoing mentorship and scenario training—is where real sustainability happens." — AUSSOM ToT Instructor.

Similar training is also provided to the Somali Police Force and National Army, with certified AUSSOM instructors stepping in to train local forces in high-risk sectors UNMAS cannot reach.
