Van 25-27 mei jl. hebben in Paramaribo het bestuur van de Suriname Paralympic Committee (NPC Suriname) en enkele leiders in de Paralympische beweging in Suriname de training Local Leader Course van het Internationaal Paralympisch Comité (IPC) gevolgd. Onder deskundige leiding van IPC Development Specialist Juan Chong uit Peru, werd gebrainstormd over het populairder maken van sport voor mensen met een beperking in Suriname, het verhogen van de bewustwording van de Surinaamse samenleving over Parasport en een actieplan voor de komende twee jaren met meer workshops voor een breder publiek, parasport festivals en een trainingskamp voor sporters met een beperking. Met deze training achter de rug, zal het Suriname Paralympisch Comité het actieplan compleet maken en uitvoeren.

De training Local Leader Course is deel van het Sports for Mobility Program van het Internationaal Paralympisch Comité (IPC) voor geselecteerde leden over de gehele wereld, waaronder Suriname. Het is een tweejarig programma waarin intensief met expertise van de IPC wordt gewerkt aan capaciteitsversterking van het Nationaal Paralympisch Comité (NPC) van het land en uitbreiding van de Paralympische beweging in dat land door onder meer bewustwording te bewerkstelligen over Parasport en topsport voor atleten met een beperking.

Aura Sandoval, Membership Engagement Co-ordinator Americas and Oceania van het IPC, was op de eerste dag van de training ook aanwezig. Ze heeft van de gelegenheid gebruik gemaakt om met het bestuur te spreken over het beleid en de strategie van het Suriname Paralympisch Comité. Ook was er een lunch meeting van Sandoval, het bestuur van NPC-Suriname en de directeur van Sport de heer Enrique Ralim over Parasport in Suriname.

Del 25 al 27 de mayo, la junta directiva del Comité Paralímpico de Surinam (NPC Suriname) y varios líderes del movimiento paralímpico en Surinam participaron en el Curso de Formación de Líderes Locales del Comité Paralímpico Internacional (IPC) en Paramaribo. Bajo la experta guía de Juan Chong, especialista en desarrollo del IPC, procedente de Perú, intercambiaron ideas sobre cómo popularizar el deporte para personas con discapacidad en Surinam, sensibilizar a la sociedad surinamesa sobre el deporte adaptado y desarrollar un plan de acción para los próximos dos años, que incluye más talleres para un público más amplio, festivales de deporte adaptado y un campamento de entrenamiento para atletas con discapacidad. Tras completar esta formación, el Comité Paralímpico de Surinam finalizará e implementará el plan de acción.

El Curso de Formación de Líderes Locales forma parte del Programa de Deportes para la Movilidad del Comité Paralímpico Internacional (IPC) para miembros seleccionados en todo el mundo, incluido Surinam. Se trata de un programa de dos años de duración que, con la colaboración del IPC, trabaja intensamente para fortalecer la capacidad del Comité Paralímpico Nacional (CPN) del país y expandir el movimiento paralímpico en Surinam, entre otras cosas, mediante la sensibilización sobre los deportes adaptados y el deporte de élite para atletas con discapacidad.

Aura Sandoval, Coordinadora de Participación de Miembros para América y Oceanía del IPC, también estuvo presente el primer día de la capacitación. Aprovechó la oportunidad para conversar con la junta directiva sobre la política y la estrategia del Comité Paralímpico de Surinam. Asimismo, se llevó a cabo un almuerzo entre Sandoval, la junta directiva del CPN de Surinam y el Director de Deportes, Enrique Ralim, para tratar temas relacionados con los deportes adaptados en Surinam.

From May 25–27, the board of the Suriname Paralympic Committee (NPC Suriname) and several leaders in the Paralympic movement in Suriname attended the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Local Leader Course in Paramaribo. Under the expert guidance of IPC Development Specialist Juan Chong from Peru, they brainstormed on making sports for people with disabilities more popular in Suriname, raising awareness within Surinamese society about Parasports, and developing an action plan for the coming two years featuring more workshops for a broader audience, Parasports festivals, and a training camp for athletes with disabilities. With this training completed, the Suriname Paralympic Committee will finalize and implement the action plan.

The Local Leader Course is part of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Sports for Mobility Program for selected members worldwide, including Suriname. It is a two-year program in which intensive work is being done with expertise from the IPC to strengthen the capacity of the country's National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and expand the Paralympic movement in that country by, among other things, raising awareness about Parasports and elite sports for athletes with disabilities.

Aura Sandoval, Membership Engagement Coordinator Americas and Oceania of the IPC, was also present on the first day of the training. She took the opportunity to speak with the board about the policy and strategy of the Suriname Paralympic Committee. There was also a lunch meeting between Sandoval, the board of NPC-Suriname, and the Director of Sport, Mr. Enrique Ralim, regarding Parasports in Suriname.
