Échappé 🩰
An échappé (pronounced ay-sha-PAY) is a fundamental classical ballet step that literally means “to escape” or “slip away.”
What it is
An échappé is a movement where both feet open out at the same time from a closed position (usually 5th position) into an open position:
• most commonly 2nd position (feet apart to the side)
• sometimes 4th position (one foot front, one back)
There are two main types:
1.Échappé sauté (jumping échappé)
2.Échappé relevé / sur les pointes (or demi-pointe)
Good échappé is not about throwing the feet apart — it should feel like:
• a controlled “release” from the center
• both legs working equally
• no collapsing in the hips or ankles
• clean symmetry (both feet travel the same distance)

🩰 Tip of the Week: Focus on the Basics
Strong dancers aren’t built on tricks—they’re built on technique. Taking the time to perfect your basic positions, posture, and control lays the foundation for everything else in ballet.

But God is faithful and fair. If we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins. He will forgive every wrong thing we have done. He will make us pure. (1 John 1:9)

Why Ballet Dancers Wear Tights🩰
Did you know?
Ballet dancers wear tights not just for looks, but to help teachers clearly see their leg alignment and technique.
This makes it easier to correct posture and improve strength and precision 💗

Great dancers aren’t built on motivation, but on the discipline to show up every single day. 🩰✨️

In ballet, attitude is a beautiful and expressive pose where:
• One leg is lifted off the ground
• The lifted leg is bent at the knee
• The supporting leg stays straight
• The arms and upper body are softly shaped to create elegance
Think of it as a softer, more expressive version of an arabesque (where the leg is straight).
✨ Types of Attitude
There are two main types:
• Attitude devant → the bent leg is lifted in front of the body
• Attitude derrière → the bent leg is lifted behind the body
Both require:
• Balance
• Turnout
• Control
• Graceful arm placement
🩷 Easy Way to Remember
👉 Attitude = lifted leg + bent knee + elegance
