QUOTE: “It is good now that it is my own people who have betrayed me. But I promise never to do anything bad to Twic as long as I live. To be honest, Twic President Charles Chol Mel has been heavily involved in pleading with me to reinstate Cueibet, to the point that he sent Hon. Thiik Thiik Mayardit to convince me regarding the Cueibet case.

We reviewed the decision following the Gok Youth apology, sportsmanship shown by Gok players and their leadership, and pleas from Twic fans and leadership, particularly President Chol Mel. so I don’t regret anything because it is my own people who have betrayed me before the people of Bahr el Ghazal.”

🚩Quote: “withdrawal of a team affects the county’s representatives to BCT, players and entire team. Now that Twic has withdrawn, they have withdrawn the representatives like Longar Magokdit and myself Majok Ayar. What will keep me in BCT now is the leadership given to me as the president by the people of Bahr el Ghazal but according to constitution My county has withdrawn with all its members from BCT. I never expected this from my own people. To other counties of Bahr el Ghazal, let the issue of withdrawing stop with Twic. It’s not good. It prevents even players from playing for another county.”

Subject: Let Us Restore the Name of Twic Mayardit in the Bahr el Ghazal Tournament

To:
Hon. Chol Mel Ayuel, President of Twic Mayardit Community
Cc: Twic Elders, Youth, and Tournament Delegates

Dear President Chol Mel,

I write as a son of Twic with pain in my heart about this withdrawal.

President, I have these questions because I want us to be better:

1. After our people injured Yirol West players, we didn't bring them to book or console Yirol West players last year, did we? Did we hand them over? Did we apologize? If we did nothing, then we cannot complain when others treat us badly.

2. You were the one who forgave Cueibet and asked the President to bring them back. Why are we turning our back again? If we want peace, we must keep our word.

3. The current President of Bahr el Ghazal Counties Tournament is a son from Twic. One day that seat may be yours. Would you want to be treated the way we are treating Majok Ayar today? Let’s not do to others what we don’t want them to do to us tomorrow.

4. Did you sit with the fans and the entire Twic community before deciding on withdrawal? Or was the decision made without us? We need to be consulted.

5. We say our players’ safety matters. But as President, did you provide security persons to guide our teams to every match? If you didn’t, then it’s you who failed them.

Mr. President, I’m sorry. I never knew Twicda could look this scary.
Now they are mocking us as if the bravery in us died with our ancestors.

We are Twic Mayardit known with sportsmanship and never quit. We are better than this.
Nhialic nhom, let’s restore our name.

With respect and pain,
A Son of Twic Mayardit

Ministers Visit SPLM Playground Rehabilitation Site

On Tuesday, 25 August 2026, Hon. Dr. Ajak Makor, Minister of Health, and Hon. Abionweng Majith, Minister of Peace and Reconciliation, accompanied Hon. Yohana Akol, Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sport, on a visit to inspect the ongoing backfilling works at the SPLM Playground.

The purpose of the visit was to encourage the Playground Committee to continue its efforts and to call upon the Abyei community in the diaspora to support the rehabilitation initiative.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Dr. Ajak Makor commended the Playground Committee for its dedication and hard work in rehabilitating the facility. He encouraged the committee to remain committed and continue advancing the project. He further suggested that the playground be renamed instead of SPLM Playground, noting that the name "Abyei" belongs to and unites all Abyei people wherever they may be.

In her remarks, Hon. Abionweng Majith praised the committee for its tremendous efforts and urged members not to be discouraged by external voices that oppose the interests of the community and the public. She reaffirmed her commitment to stand with the committee and support the rehabilitation process until its successful completion.

The ministers expressed appreciation for the progress made so far and encouraged continued collaboration to ensure the successful restoration of the facility for the benefit of the entire Abyei community.

Over 60 trips of local sand have been delivered to the playground, with more expected. The Committee thanks all contributors and encourages further support to help complete the project.

The next phase will be ground leveling, with tools expected from the UNISFA Vietnamese Engineering Contingent.

Some community members have also proposed renaming the facility from SPLM Playground to Abyei National Stadium to promote inclusivity and reflect the unity of all Abyei residents.
