From Face of Tonj
The Voice of Tonj Cries Out:
People of Tonj, listen! We are not a voting farm. We are not a bank of numbers to be visited every year of election, only to be abandoned after the ink dries.
The election is at the corner, and what do we see? The same dusty roads. The same struggling clinics. The same children under trees dreaming of a classroom. The promises from past campaigns have faded like old posters in the sun. Our community centres are empty of development, full only of our frustration.
But today, we speak with one voice on one great betrayal: THE ALEXANDRIA UNIVERSITY.
They promised us a future. They promised our youth knowledge. They promised our town progress and pride. They laid a foundation stone for our hopes, and then they walked away. They have left a skeleton of a dream, a monument to their neglect.
So to those who come seeking our votes, who come with sweet tongues and empty hands, we have one clear, non-negotiable demand:
WITHOUT THE OPERATION OF THE ALEXANDRIA UNIVERSITY IN TONJ BY 2026, HOW DO YOU EXPECT OUR VOTES?
Do not come to us with more promises. Do not come with shirts and sugar. Come with a signed decree. Come with a budget. Come with lecturers and open doors.
Our votes are not cheap. They are the price of our children's future. To secure our votes, we need Alexander University to be OPEN, FUNCTIONING, and TEACHING by 2026. Nothing less.
No University, No Votes. This is the word of Tonj.
If you're a son and daughter or a friend of Tonj, kindly share to reach their offices.

Poem: Tonj Bleeds
Poet: Alith Cyer Mayar
21/9/2020
William Deng Nhial
Weeps in the grave,
May his persona breed.
Your children are divided between shades
A home turned to feasts of bloodshed
A room of broken beds
Torn sheets
And weeping kids
A soldier knows not who to protect
A civilian dreams of protection
And lives in terror
Floods flow
Wounds heal
Communities break
And humans learn to love
Children of Deng Nhial
Are our hearts Disarmed?
And our hands alarmed?
Machines mean nothing
If we put hatred to shame
May your hearts be disarmed
Before taking your guns
Let your tears rain no more
Your pains are harvesting
Your hearts thirsty for a home
Of safe rooms
Livelihoods shake
People live
Destruction fades
Leaders emerge
Give the offsprings
A chance to grow
Your insecurities
Opportunities, no more
Be one,fight not alone
May the freedom Square
Receive rains of love
And liberation of justice from the cage
Fighting for daughters
Who would bring laughter
Inlieu of the planned fights
Living between cows
And raising calves
Do we need this camp to die?
Internal wounds
Inner bleeding
Loud weeping
There’s no might in division and hatred
A piece of South Sudan is hurting itself
And bleeding among the other pieces
Tonj
Celebrate all your directions
Because the East hold the North
and moves with the South.
NB: I wrote this poem back when things were intense in Tonj but it feels like every bleeding area of South Sudan needs this poem right now. May South Sudan know Stability soon🥹❤️😇⭐️🤲🏾

I'm Your Sister by Dengos.
I'm your sister, not a slave to bear your pain,
Not a shadow in your house, not a toy to entertain.
Hold me gentle, cradle me in care,
For in my spirit lies a love rare.
Brothers born without sisters carry a hollow heart,
An emptiness no joy or wealth can ever part.
I am your sister, your family's greatest pride,
A blessing, a treasure, standing strong by your side.
In the land of Warrap, in Tonj's warm embrace,
Sisters bring honor, and wealth no one can replace.
Hundreds of cattle earn you our name,
Yet, the truest riches lie not in worldly claim.
Do not hurt me, for regret cuts like a knife,
Wounds of sorrow linger, shadowing life.
In this twenty-first century, beating breaks no chains,
Fill my heart with kindness, wash away the pains.
Don't push me away, dear brother, hear my plea,
I am your comfort, your sanctuary.
In me, find strength, in me, find peace,
Let love be the bond that will never cease.
Remember, I am your sister—your living wealth,
Guard me with honor, protect my health.
Together, we rise beyond hurt and despair,
Hand in hand, a future we will share.
"Other people are planting seeds and there are those that uprooted their immature seeds for the seek of one day's diner not knowing that their future is blurred"
