King’s Super Cup
Result: Mbabane Swallows 0(4)-
(2)0 Kaizer Chiefs
Date: 18 July 2015
Venue: Somhlolo National Stadium
Kaizer Chiefs were eliminated from
the King's Super Cup, after losing
4-2 in a penalty shoot-out to
Mbabane Swallows on Saturday
morning.
Brilliant Khuzwayo was called into
action in the 10th minute, as he had
to be alert to keep out Njabulo
Ndlovu's stinging effort from the
left.
The home side went close again in
the 16th minute, when Tony
Tsabedze showed good skill before
picking out Wonder Nhleko, who
headed just wide of the mark.
Steve Komphela's side struggled to
create openings in the first 45
minutes and failed to register a
single effort on target.
Despite the home side creating
most of the chances, the score
remained goalless at the halftime
break.
Chiefs nearly broke the deadlock in
the 56th minute when Siphiwe
Tshabalala was played through but
the midfielder rifled an effort just
wide of the post.
The home should have broken the
deadlock in the 63rd minute when
Nhleko broke free down the middle
but the strike dragged his effort
wide of the upright with only
Khuzwayo to beat.
Swallows went even closer in the
76th minute when Felix
Badenhorst's curling free-kick
struck the upright, with Khuzwayo
well beaten.
Khuzwayo proved to be the busier
of the two goalkeepers and he was
called upon in the 83rd minute to
keep out Badenhorst's left-footed
effort from the edge of the area.
Neither side could break the
deadlock in the final stages of the
second half and the game was
forced into a penalty shoot-out.
And it was the home side who held
their nerve, as they converted all
five spot kicks to secure a spot in
the final.
Here's how they lined up:
Mbabane Swallows: Ginindza,
Magagula, Maphosa, Mabila,
Mkhweli, Mhleko, Tagbor,
Kabamba, Tsabedze, Hlatjwako
Kaizer Chiefs: Khuzwayo, Gaxa,
Gordinho, Xulu, Ritchie,Katsande,
Letsholonyane, Tshabalala,
Lebese, Parker, Mthembu
