Your first ever ocean dive can feel like a BIG moment 🤿

These three Open Water students had never done an ocean dive before. They took the giant stride, headed down to 12 metres and faced those first dive nerves head on.

And around 45 minutes later… look at those smiles 😍

That’s one of our favourite parts of teaching the PADI Open Water course. Watching the nerves disappear and seeing that moment when students realise they actually did it.

Imagine being one of the 0.1% who gets to see this with their own eyes and today at the magical Chumphon Pinnacle was the day 🦈💙

There is something pretty incredible about watching a whale shark swim straight towards you. These gentle giants are the largest fish in the ocean, and despite their size, they are completely harmless to divers. They feed mainly on plankton and small fish, filtering food from the water as they swim.

Is scuba diving dangerous?

Diving is an amazing way to explore the underwater world, but like any adventure, there are a few simple things every diver should remember.

🤿 Don’t touch. Corals, marine life and even some seemingly harmless creatures can hurt you, and touching them can harm them too.

👀 Stay with your PADI Pro. Your Divemaster or Instructor knows the dive site, the conditions and where to take you safely.

🫁 Never hold your breath. This is one of the most important rules in scuba diving. Keep breathing normally and never hold your breath while ascending.

Tokay geckos are one of those unexpected little encounters you can have around Koh Tao. They’re large, loud and surprisingly good at making themselves known, especially when you least expect it 😅

Whale sharks two days in a row 🦈
Yesterday we had a whale shark on the dive, and today we were lucky enough to spend time diving with not one, but two whale sharks.

But seeing a whale shark is only one part of being a good diver. Being certified means you have met the minimum standard. Becoming a better diver comes from continuing to train, improving your buoyancy and trim, and learning how to interact with marine life without disturbing it.
