Why Is It Important to Document Dance in Notation?
Dance is an art form that exists through movement—and movement disappears as soon as the performance ends. So how can we preserve it for future generations?
Dance notation provides one answer.
Unlike ordinary written descriptions, a notation system such as Labanotation can record the details of movement, including direction, level, timing, weight, body parts, pathways, and relationships between movements.
