With Taekwondo consistently contributing to the medal haul of Team Philippines since the 1994 Asian Games, the question remains if can the country finally capture its first-ever Asian Games gold medal in the sport?
For the upcoming 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Team Philippines will once again have the chance with potential lead candidates Tachiana Keizha Mangin in Women's Kyorugi, 2022 Asian Games Silver Medalist in Men's Poomsae Patrick King Perez and Olympian Kurt Bryan Barbosa in Men's Kyorugi.

Team Philippines once again has a strong chance to contend for a podium finish in both Men’s Baseball and Women’s Baseball at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan as they are one of the 5 best teams in Asia based on the recent rankings.
In the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, the Philippine Men’s Baseball Team delivered a competitive campaign and finished 5th overall while the Philippine Women's Softball missed a podium finish after losing to Chinese Taipei in the Bronze Medal game.

As the final list of the Philippine Athletics Team for the 20th Asian Games not revealed yet.
John Cabang Tolentino and Hussein Loraña are poised to be among the strongest Filipino athletics contenders for the upcoming 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
Tolentino, who reached the finals and finished fourth in the Men’s 110m hurdles at the 2022 Asian Games has the potential to deliver a historic podium finish for Philippines in Asian Games track athletics. Meanwhile, 2025 Southeast Asian Games Gold Medalist Loraña is also seen as a strong contender in Men's 800m to reach the finals following his impressive performance in Bangkok.

Basketball will officially be the first sport to be contested at the 2026 Asian Games, with competitions scheduled from September 10 to 20 in Nagoya. The early start of the tournament highlights the popularity and importance of basketball in the continental sporting event.
All eyes will be on Gilas Pilipinas as they aim to defend the historic gold medal they won during the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

The last time Team Philippines secured a medal in Women’s Athletics at the Asian Games was during the 1994 Asian Games courtesy of Elma Muros who won Bronze Medal in the Women’s Long Jump

After dominating the last two editions of the Southeast Asian Games where Soft Tennis was featured, Team Philippines is now setting its sights on winning its first-ever medal at the Asian Games
The Philippines has shown steady improvement in international Soft Tennis competitions, collecting several medals in recent events. With both the men’s and women’s teams already securing qualification for the 2026 Asiad, Team Philippines is expected to put up a strong challenge against traditional powerhouses Japan and South Korea on the Asian stage

Based on the recent IWF Men World Rankings 2025-2026, another three out of eight weight categories in women are bound to have Philippine representatives.
Olympian and SEA Games 2025 Gold Medalist Elreen Ann Ando has the highest chance to lead the team particularly in -63kg category. Veteran Kristel Macrohon is set to compete in heavier -69kg while Jhodie Peralta in -53kg. Meanwhile, Rosegie Ramos and Angeline Colonia have a close fight for a spot in -48kg as they set 176kg and 175kg respectively over the past year.

Recent Junior World Record holder and SEA Games 2025 Silver Medalist, Albert Ian Delos Santos has the highest chance to represent Team Philippines in -71kg category while another junior lifter Mango Prince David Tarro for -65kg category. Meanwhile, Fernando Agad Jr. and Prince Keil Delos Santos have their chance for a lone spot in -60kg category
