💚 EMERALD ORIGIN CHALLENGE 💚

Emerald, the birthstone of May, is one of the most treasured gemstones in the world. 🌿✨

Every emerald tells a geological story hidden within its inclusions. 🌍🔬

Can you identify the origin of these emeralds based on their internal features?

Under magnification, emeralds may display characteristic inclusions, growth patterns, and fluid fingerprints that can provide valuable clues to their source.

Your Mission:
Study the microscopic images and determine the possible origin of each emerald.

How to Participate:
🔍 Observe the inclusions and internal structures carefully.
💬 Comment your answer along with the gemological evidence supporting your identification.

💚 Clarity Enhancement in Emeralds 💚

Most natural emeralds contain surface-reaching fractures that are commonly filled with oil or resin to improve clarity and transparency, a standard and widely accepted practice in the gem trade.

🌿 Oil Treatment
Cedarwood oil is the traditional filler, improving transparency but it may dry out over time.

🧪 Resin Treatment
Opticon resin is a widely used low-viscosity epoxy resin. It is more stable and longer-lasting than oil, providing durable clarity enhancement.

💎 The vast majority of emeralds on the market have some level of clarity enhancement.

🔬 Under a 10× jeweler’s loupe, filled fractures may appear as:
✨ Glossy surface-reaching fissures
🌈 Interference-like flash effects
🫧 Trapped bubbles or oily-looking residues
🔦 Increased transparency compared to surrounding areas
