Our Story
Established on May 6, 1952, the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) is the governing body for all forms of volleyball in Asia and has become the largest continental volleyball association in the world with 65 affiliated federations from only 12 at the time of its establishment.
The first concept of the AVC was launched by the initiative of the late Mr Nishikawa of Japan on April 1952. The major tasks of AVC at the time were the organisation of Asian Men’s and Women’s Championships and the volleyball tournaments at the Asian Games.
In 2008, Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser from Saudi Arabia became the AVC President and he was re-elected for another four-year term during the 21st AVC General Assembly in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 18, 2015.
The AVC Headquarters was located in Beijing, China, but shifted to Bangkok, Thailand in 2014. FIVB President Dr Ary Graca joined distinguished guests at the official inauguration on December 3, 2014 of the new AVC Headquarters, which is located on the 12th floor of the Sports Authority of Thailand Building in Bangkok. The official website of the AVC is www.asianvolleyball.net.
