Remembering our Thailand Rugby League Association’s Presentation night 10 years ago today.

10 years ago today the Thailand Stars squad gathered at one of our major sponsors Australian Centre to hold our Presentation evening and farewell the players before leaving for Canberra to play Latin Heat.

A very enjoyable and memorable evening had by all our players, families, sponsors and supporters.

On behalf of the Australian based Thai players we would like to acknowledge and thank all of the Thai based players for their efforts in 2015 including the officials Andy Steel, Yuji Kitahara, Sup and Sakda.

Thank you also to our sponsors Australian Centre, Treedom, Bartercard, Sala and Macoocoo. We looked great this year thanks to Tsunami and X-Treme Sportswear.

We look forward to a big 2016!

The TRLA are saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Troy Wain (pictured below on far left in the first row with the 2015 Phuket Cobras).

Troy was a supporter and contributor to the fledgling Thai Rugby League from 2013.

He was a member of the extended Phuket Cobras touring squad that played in the Phuket 9s in 2014 and the Asian RL 9s also in Phuket in 2015.

He also attended and supported Thailand Stars games.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to Troy’s family and many friends.

RIP Troy Wain 🙏

Good Luck to the latest Thai team that will play against Ukraine at the historic North Sydney Oval.

10 years ago today Thailand Rugby League toured Japan 🇯🇵 to play an International with 13 domestic and 4 heritage players.

The costs, transport, accommodation and the logistics of getting all players and staff to this huge city was daunting. But nothing was impossible for the Thailand Stars in those days.

It is so difficult, that only one team had toured Japan before and that was Lebanon in 1998 captained by John Elias. A 20 point haul by a young Hazem El Masri steered the Cedars to a 52-28 win.

This Thailand team did not have the luxury of having the same experience with several players only playing a handful of games of League. Also, some could not speak a word of Thai, others not a word of English and some were fluent in both! However, the friendships formed and the close bonds meant it hardly mattered.

The 一般社団法人日本ラグビーリーグ協会　／　Japanese Rugby League were great hosts and looked after us as best they could and we thank them. For the record, they powered away in the second half for a big 52-16 win, their first on home soil.

It was very satisfying to see our team having such a good time touring Tokyo and playing a historic Rugby League match in a magnificent city giving us all memories for a lifetime.
