"You can love someone so much…But you can never love people as much as you can miss them."
— John Green

———

(Love vs Miss)

———

This quote is from John Green’s famous young adult novel, Looking for Alaska.

• The Story's Context: The protagonist falls in love with a girl named Alaska, but she tragically and suddenly passes away. Her mysterious nature and charm leave him completely consumed by her memory.

• The Core Meaning: This line reflects the protagonist's realization that while he loved her deeply when she was alive, it pales in comparison to the wild, consuming longing he feels after her death. Missing her becomes an emotion so powerful that it swallows every other feeling whole.

The quote uses the metaphor of ghosts to illustrate this point. Ghosts, like true love, are often talked about but rarely witnessed. This comparison emphasizes the idea that true love, while often spoken of as a powerful and transformative experience, is not something that everyone encounters or recognizes.
