In Sanskrit, tapas literally means "heat." In yoga, it's the willingness to endure intensity for the sake of transformation.

The yogis understood something we all know deep down: real change involves discomfort. It takes a little fire to hold a new course of action, rather than slide back into the comfort of a familiar habit.

Tapas is the early morning practice when you'd rather stay in bed. It's the pose you stay in for one more breath. It's the choice to keep showing up when the excitement fades.
