🇹🇭 Team Thailand Surfing – 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Wrap-Up 🏄♀️🏄♂️
The surfing competition at the 20th Asian Games at Pacific Long Beach, Tahara, Japan, has come to an end. Team Thailand sent four shortboard surfers, and all four made it through Round 1. They competed against many of Asia's best surfers, including several Olympians.
In the women's event, Izzy (Isabel Faye Higgs) and Annie (Annissa Tita Flynn) both won their Round 1 heats and went straight through to Round 3. Both then won again in Round 3, the last 16. Izzy's 12.10 was the team's highest heat total. That put two Thai women into the Asian Games quarterfinals, the top 8 in Asia. In the quarterfinals, Annie faced Japan's IKEDA Mirai, who went on to win the gold medal. Izzy met China's Olympian YANG Siqi in big surf and heavy rain, and she fought right to the final second.
In the men's event, Nai (Natthakron Sae-iew) and Makham (Tinn Johnson) both won their Round 2 heats to reach Round 3. Nai thrilled the crowd with a 6.50 aerial. In Round 3, both lost close heats to surfers from Korea and Indonesia, and both finished in the top 16 in Asia.
These results were a team effort. The Thailand Surfing Federation would like to thank Head Coach Boy, Pongsakorn Pennuan-ong, who looked after the athletes from training camp to competition day. Thank you to Coach Ton, Pranot Sukpitak, our fitness coach, who warmed up and prepared the athletes on the beach every morning. Thank you to Team Manager Jor, Peerapol Leelasettakul, who took care of everything for the team in Japan, as well as the many months of training camp at Kata Beach, Phuket, before the Games. And thank you to Joob, Chanin Aiyarak, President of the Thailand Surfing Federation, whose planning and drive brought Team Thailand to these Asian Games.
A big thank you to Joke from Rip Curl Thailand, who came all the way to cheer at the water's edge, and to Off and the Thai community in Japan, who sat on the beach cheering for us every single day. Thank you also to our staff, the athletes' families, and all our fans back home in Thailand for your support throughout the event.
The Asian Games are over, but Thai surfing's journey goes on, and our next goal is LA 2028. Please follow the Thailand Surfing Federation on social media and keep cheering for our Thai surfers! ❤️🇹🇭
