PLGS at Pattavia, Friday 8th March
Since it was the first Friday of the month, it was medal day at Pattavia. We had a great turnout today with 10 groups all trying to get in the winners’ ’ circle. The course was in fantastic shape, and the greens were as fast as ever.
Today, another closely contested event took place, and the sneaky American Chris Barker, at 114 years old, emerged as the eventual winner, returning to his winning ways. Way to go, pal! Great job with a nett 69. The runner-up position was claimed by Colm Lawlor, who scored 70, but a triple bogey on the 15th hole prevented him from winning the medal. Maurice Quaid secured third place in a four-way tie, all scoring 71, by beating Andy Kelleher on a count back and surpassing Adam Barton who defeated Soren Hansen.
Some great golf around a tough track
A big thank you to Pat Lavin for filling in while I enjoyed a day off.

PLGS at Greenwood A & C, Wednesday 6th March

It had been a while since we last visited Greenwood, but on Wednesday we took 9 groups there. The condition of A & C was excellent and the greens were fantastic.

Everything at Greenwood is great except for their food and drink kiosks. Ice is unavailable at all of them and the drinks are not even chilled in the fridges! The day was enjoyable overall, despite the unsatisfactory service.

Mark Effendic emerged victorious in today's close battle for the Jacket, scoring 39 points. With a score of 38 points, Simon Niven, the big man, claimed second place, narrowly beating Don Pavlovic on a count back, who also scored 38 points. Thierry Petrement finished fifth with 37 points, narrowly losing to Pat on a count back. Colm Lawlor, my great mate and a left-handed Irishman, secured the final place with 36 points.

We bid farewell to Kev Budge as well... thank you for your support and kindness in arranging Phil's Memorial Day. You did your friend proud and I loved hearing your stories about the mischief you both used to make.

May you have a secure journey back, pal.

PLGS at Pleasant Valley, Monday 5th March
During our visit to Pleasant Valley on Monday, six groups fought for the coveted green jacket. The course was in good condition and offers the highest value for the money compared to other less expensive courses. In the tightly contested match today, only two players scored lower than their handicaps.
The winner today was back for Phil's Memorial Day and has been playing exceptional golf, with the longest drive I've ever witnessed. I'd like to extend my congratulations to my long-time friend John Doyle for his impressive 37-point score.
Don Pavlovic came close to claiming second place with 37pts but lost in a count back.
Peter Shaw, who just arrived from Australia, took third place with a score of 36 points.
Thierry Petrement, who consistently performed well, secured fourth place with 36 points, losing to Peter on a count back.
1st - John Doyle - 37pts (9) CB
2nd - Don Pavlovic- 37 pts (18)
3rd - Peter Shaw - 36 pts (16) CB

PHIL DAVIES MEMORIAL DAY at Bangpakong Riverside

What an incredible turnout to honour and remember our great friend.
People from all around the world came together as friends to show that Phil’s memory will always live on.
We all know how kind, generous, funny and caring he was so it was very fitting that people showed this today to make the day so special.
I want to thank everyone that made the effort to be there and also the people who couldn’t make it but sent lovely messages and even donated prizes!
We had 80 golfers take on Bangpakong to see who would become the first ever winner of this special day.
I had the pleasure of playing with todays winner and he is a great friend of mine and he was very close with Phil so it was a perfect end to the day
Today’s Flight B winner was Pat Lavin with a great round finishing with 41pts!
Pat has been a massive help at the Links and has taken on the roll of doing presentations which are tough boots to fill as Phil was so great at it and could entertain a crowd with his charm and humour but he’s doing a great job and you old pal would be proud of you.
I want to thank Kev Budge for getting up and sharing your stories about Phil … you have known him since you were 15 and the laughs you have had over the years are hilarious.
You did him proud and I’m glad I got to hear the tales.
Thank you to Joy for the food, entertainment and prizes we all know how tough today was for you but you still smiled and made everyone feel welcome as you always do.
Everyone is proud of you
Thanks to the Links staff you did an amazing job with so many people there.
I will do a separate post to thank everyone who kindly donated money or prizes to make the day so special.

PLGS at Royal Lakeside, Monday 26th February

We made our usual trip to the pristine Royal Lakeside on the last Monday of the month. Today, we had 10 groups battling it out. It was intense! Just wanted to give a shoutout to the Royal lakeside for letting us leave 30 mins early and for keeping the course in top-notch condition.

Today’s winner is Links to the core and is always there to help out and to Captain the pool team. It was tight today but congratulations to a very popular winner…. You got it! Captain Dave Heyes won with 23 points on his back 9 and a total of 39. I bet he'll spread the word about the ball stuck in the tree, but honestly, it's not that interesting.

Vic Hansen takes second place with a solid 39 points. Pat Lavin came in 3rd with 37pts ... if he didn't blow 5 putts in a row from 3ft today, he would've won the green jacket, but he did win the money in our 4 ball. 4th place went to the very likeable John Pearce with 36pts beating Francis Goyons on a count back. Jason O Gorman came out on top with 35pts in the 5 way count back.
Big thanks to Pat for the help with the presentation. You're a legend!

PLGS at Pattavia, Friday 19th February

It’s the last Friday of the month already and today we travelled to Pattavia for our monthly 2 man scramble. We had 16 teams take part and it was a very close affair today.
The course wasn’t in great condition to be fair the greens were not to the usual standard but we still made the most of it.
Today’s winners were a Welsh father and son combo and are regular supporters of the Links so congratulations to Ron and Stuart Chamberlain with a great score of 66.5.
Second place went to the usual suspects John Rep and Young Min Ko only missing out by 0.25 scoring 66.75 it was also Youngs birthday so happy birthday from everyone at the Links… still a young sexy man. Third place went to Don and Toru with a very solid 67.75
The final place went to Chris Barker and Keith Griffith with 68
Keith has just got back from a short trip back to the UK so welcome back and Chris is in fine form again so no surprise they were in the hunt today
Thanks to Dave Heyes for your help today always appreciated mate.
1st - Stuart & Ron - 66.5
2nd - John & Young - 66.75
3rd - Don & Toru - 67.75

PLGS at Pleasant Valley, Wednesday 21st February

Today we traveled to Pleasant Valley with 8 groups of fine golfers and a couple of dodgy ones too. We were looked after really well and got away 20 minutes early.
Pleasant valley is a great layout and really good value for money.
Today winner has played with the links every week while he’s been here and sadly he goes back to France at the end of this month so it was very fitting for him to win the green jacket so congratulations to Francis Goyons with a great score of 40pts It’s been a real pleasure having you and we will see you next November. Second place narrowly missing out was Marc Brunnar with a solid 39pts. Third place was Rob Knight with 38pts and the final place went to the man in fine form Pat Lavin Pat had a great day today winning 2 near pins as well and how the second one didn’t go in is a mystery!
We welcomed back more old faces again great to see you back with us.

PLGS at Bangpakong Riverside, Monday 19th February

Happy Monday hope you all had a great weekend… we were back at Bangpakong today with only 7 groups as many of our regulars had gone on the 2 day trip to Royal Gems.
We had more new faces today so welcome to you all and welcome back to some old faces as well…. great to see you all again.

We had only 2 players break par today which is a surprise here but the wind was blowing pretty hard on the back nine.

There was a runaway winner and he was my playing partner and good friend Dave Dunn “Dunnie” with 41pts. Dave had a few moments of good fortune avoiding some water hazards but played so well getting up and down when needed and making some great putts! It’s Dave’s last week here after a 2 month trip he’s been great fun to have around and we appreciate your support at the Links.

Second place went to the new Frenchmen in town Bernard Courbe with a solid 37pts. Third place went to Ray Clarke with 36pts beating Roger Emery on a count back also with 36pts.

1st - Dave Dunn - 41pts (19)
2nd - Bernard Courbe - 37pts (16)

PLGS two person scramble at Parichat, Friday, 16th February
That’s another golfing week come to an end. Today we traveled to Parichat for our monthly scramble and I think this is a great course for the event as it’s a quirky and tough golf course and you have to be on your game to get it round.
We changed to a pairs scramble instead of a 4 man team and that will be the way forward from now on.
I had the pleasure of playing with today’s winner and they thoroughly deserved it… they made some great putts, got up and down from some unbelievable spots and both drove the ball really well so congratulations to Pat Lavin and John Pettit winning with a net 64.5. In second place and only losing out by 0.25 where Jon Reps & Young min Ko… they both had a great round as well missing a 6 foot birdie putt on the last and John holed a 40 footer to seal the win so that’s how close this was. In third place was the in form pair of Maurice Quaid and Lawrie McBride with a solid score of 67.5 beating Myself and Colm Lawlor by 0.25. Me and Colm couldn’t buy a putt today but it was a really enjoyable 4 ball with today’s winners.
Thanks to Dave Heyes for your help with presentation think you depressed everyone.
1st - Pat Lavin & John Pettit (64.5)
2nd - Jon Reps & Young Min (64.75)
3rd - M Quaid & L McBride (67.5)
4th - Phil Ashton & Colm Lawlor (67.7)

(Thanks to Phil Ashton)
