A steady drip of water hollows out stone.

Not through force.
Not through speed.
Through consistency.

Yoga is much the same.

One practice may not seem to change much. One breath. One posture. One difficult moment where you choose to stay instead of leaving.

But practice repeated over months and years begins to shape you.

Strength is built.
Attention becomes steadier.
Discomfort becomes more familiar.
The mind becomes less reactive.

You don’t need to transform yourself overnight.

Keep showing up.

The smallest effort, repeated long enough, can change something that once seemed immovable.

Consistency is its own kind of force.

Beginner to advanced options/progressions for transition to seated postures.

The secret is deliberate, wholehearted, daily practice practice practice.

What happens when you don’t leave?

You enter a challenging posture.

The body says, enough.
The mind says, get out.

And then you stay.

Not by forcing.
Not by ignoring pain.
But by remaining present with discomfort.

That first impulse to leave is often where the real practice begins.

You discover that discomfort changes.
That the urge to escape is not always a command you need to obey.

And this is where yoga becomes bigger than the mat.

Life will give you difficult conversations, uncertainty, frustration, fear, and circumstances you cannot immediately change.

The practice is learning to pause rather than react.
To stay present rather than retreat.
To choose your response rather than let discomfort choose it for you.

The posture is the training ground.
Life is where you use what you’ve learned.

Stop collecting yoga. Start practicing it.

A different teacher every day.
A different style every week.
A new sequence every class.

It can feel like variety.

But depth comes from something else.

One teacher.
One method.
Small classes.
Daily practice.

The same teacher sees you repeatedly.
The same method gives you something to master.
Small classes allow for individual attention.
Daily practice creates continuity.

You stop asking, “What am I going to learn today?”

And start asking:

“How deeply can I learn this?”

Yoga is not about constantly finding something new.

It is about staying with something long enough for it to change you.

Show up.
Pay attention.
Keep practicing.

What if your yoga practice is actually helping you avoid the very thing yoga asks you to face: stillness?

Blaise Pascal wrote:

“All of one’s misery comes from the inability to sit quietly in a room alone.”

Look at the modern yoga class:

Constant movement.
Loud music.
One posture after another.

Very little stillness.

Yet Patañjali defines yoga as:

Yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ
The stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.

Yoga isn’t about escaping discomfort.

It is about staying with it.

Slow down.
Breathe.
Stay.
Pay attention.

This is the practice I continue to return to—and the practice I bring to my classes at The Yoga Shala.

Less distraction. More attention.
Less movement. More awareness.

What if much of what the yoga industry calls yoga is actually an escape from yoga?

Blaise Pascal wrote:

“All of one’s misery comes from the inability to sit quietly in a room alone.”

Look at the modern yoga class.

Constant movement.
Loud music.
Crowded rooms.
One posture for a few seconds before rushing into the next.

There is almost no time to be still.

But Patañjali tells us:

Yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ.

Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.

So what happens when we deliberately slow down?

We stay.

We breathe.

We observe.

We experience discomfort without immediately escaping it.

We notice the mind asking for distraction—and we don’t give it one.

The posture becomes less important than our relationship with the posture.

Because yoga isn’t simply about moving the body.

It is about learning to still the mind.

And sometimes the most advanced practice is not another movement.

It is staying.

This is not simply something I teach.
It is something I continue to learn through my own practice.

Again and again, I return to the same lesson:

Slow down.
Become quiet.
Stay.

The more I practice this, the more I understand why stillness is at the heart of yoga.

This is the approach I bring to my classes at The Yoga Shala: less distraction, more attention; less rushing, more staying. If that is the kind of practice you’re looking for, come practice with me.

An advanced technique is simply a basic one mastered.

What looks difficult is often nothing more than fundamentals practiced so consistently that they become instinctive.

Master the basics.
Refine the details.
Repeat.

Eventually, what once seemed advanced becomes simply the next step.

Most people are looking for a breakthrough.

A few are willing to become the kind of person who keeps showing up for decades.

That is where the real transformation happens.

The body changes.
The mind matures.
The ego softens.
What once seemed impossible becomes ordinary—not because of talent, but because of time.

Mastery isn’t built in a season.
It’s built in thousands of ordinary practices, repeated with extraordinary consistency.

Practice long enough, and yoga stops being something you do.

It becomes who you are.

Keep going. 🙏

DEPTH OVER VARIETY

It is better to be excellent at a small number of postures and movements than mediocre at many.

Yoga is not a collection of poses to accumulate.

It is a practice of refinement.

Repeat.
Study.
Pay attention.
Remove what is unnecessary.
Master the fundamentals.

A posture practiced a thousand times with awareness will teach you more than a hundred postures performed without understanding.

Depth creates skill.
Repetition creates mastery.
Mastery creates freedom.

Don’t rush to learn more.

Learn to do less—better.
