I like being lean. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t.
But having abs doesn’t mean much to me if the rest of my body can’t perform.
How many of these would you be confident of doing…
1. Run 5km comfortably without stopping?
2. Carry half your bodyweight for 50 metres?
3. Climb 3 flights of stairs without getting out of breath?
4. Hang from a bar for 60 seconds?
5. Get onto the floor and back up without using your hands?
6. Hike a mountain tomorrow if you wanted to?
7. Play an hour of sport without your body stopping you?
8. Still beat your kids in a race? 😅
For me, looking good is part of it.
But I also want a body that’s strong, fit and capable enough to keep doing the things I enjoy for as long as possible.

Over a million people in a month. Pretty crazy, really.
If you’re new here, welcome along 🫡
1. You get hungry at roughly the same time each day.
You get hungry around mealtimes rather than feeling hungry all day.
2. You don’t need three coffees just to feel human.
You’ve got enough natural energy to get yourself going.
3. You can go several hours without thinking about food.
You’re not constantly looking for your next snack or battling cravings.
4. You don’t crash after meals.
You can eat a decent meal without wanting to lie down afterwards.
5. You rarely crave sugar in the afternoon.
You’re not reaching for something sweet just to get through the rest of the day.
6. You sleep well and wake feeling recovered.
Most mornings, you actually feel like you’ve slept.
7. You don’t stay sore for days after training.
You train, recover and feel ready to go again.
8. You rarely feel bloated after eating.
Most meals sit well and don’t leave you feeling stuffed or uncomfortable.
9. You have a healthy s*x drive.
Low energy, poor sleep and high stress tend to show up here pretty quickly.
10. You’re maintaining your muscle and strength.
The more muscle you carry, the more energy your body uses, even at rest.
Your metabolism is about far more than how many calories you burn.
It affects your energy, appetite, sleep, digestion, recovery, body composition and how well you perform day to day.
If you want to see how well yours is performing…

How many can you tick off?
If you can do most of these, you’re probably stronger than 90% of men over 40.
1. 20 strict push-ups.
2. 5 strict chin-ups.
3. 10 full-range bodyweight dips.
4. Dead hang for 60 seconds.
5. Farmer carry 50% of your bodyweight in each hand for 30 metres.
6. Trap bar deadlift 1.5× your bodyweight.
7. 1 Turkish get-up per side with a 20kg kettlebell.
8. 8 Bulgarian split squats per leg holding 25% of your bodyweight in each hand.
Strength isn’t just about lifting heavy.
It’s about having a body that’s capable, resilient and ready for whatever life throws at you.
Which one would one would challenge you the most?
Less than two years ago, Dave made a decision.
Not to chase a six-pack.
Not to look younger.
But to become the strongest, healthiest version of himself.
Today, at 60 years old, he’s stronger than ever, around 12% body fat, and proving that your best years don’t have to be behind you.
The biggest change wasn’t his body.
It was deciding that his own health was worth investing in again.
Proud of you Dave. ✊

These aren’t minimum requirements.
They’re the strength standards I believe every man over 40 should aim for if he wants to stay strong, capable and independent as he gets older.
Which of the five do you think you’d find the most challenging?
Drop the number in the comments.
1. Single Leg Sit to Stand
Target: 5 controlled repetitions per leg
A great assessment of unilateral leg strength, stability and control. It highlights side-to-side imbalances and the strength needed for everyday tasks such as climbing stairs and getting up from a chair.
2. Push-Ups
Target: 20 perfect repetitions
A simple but effective test of upper-body pushing strength, core stability and muscular endurance.
3. Farmer Carry
Target: Carry 50% of your bodyweight in each hand for 20 metres
One of the best assessments of functional strength. It challenges your grip, core, posture and your ability to carry heavy loads safely.
4. Strict Pull-Ups
Target: 5 strict repetitions
A benchmark for upper-body pulling strength. Strong pulling muscles support better posture, shoulder health and long-term resilience.
5. Deadlift
Target: 1.5 × bodyweight
One of the best indicators of total-body strength. It develops the hips, legs, back and grip while reinforcing the ability to lift heavy objects safely from the floor.
Less than two years ago, Jim didn’t recognise the man looking back at him.
As an Army officer, he’d spent his career leading others and setting the standard.
Discipline.
Accountability.
Leading from the front.
But somewhere along the way, work had gradually become the priority.
His training stopped.
His health slipped.
And with it, so did the confidence that had always been part of who he was.
Not because he’d forgotten how to lead.
But because the standards he expected of himself no longer matched the way he was living.
That quiet disconnect is something I think a lot of men experience.
They become exceptional at looking after everyone else.
Their team.
Their family.
Their career.
But somewhere along the way, they stop leading themselves.
Eighteen months later, Jim is a different man.
Not simply because he’s leaner, stronger and fitter than he’s ever been.
But because his actions once again reflect the standards he expects of himself.
That’s what I’m most proud of.
Not the body fat percentage.
Not the running times.
Not the strength.
The man he’s become.
If you’re a driven man who’s ready to become the man you know you’re capable of being, I’d love to help.

Progress doesn’t always feel dramatic while you’re living it.
That’s why so many men quit too soon.
I get it. It’s confronting to see where you’re really at.
But the sooner you accept your starting point, the sooner you can do something about it.
Aaron almost didn’t take progress photos because he didn’t think much had changed.
Looking back, the difference was undeniable.
He’s living proof that your life can look very different in 6 or 12 months.
It all starts with one decision.

This isn’t about vanity.
It’s about what happens when your health gets pushed to the bottom of the list while you’re building everything else.
It’s about having the energy to lead your family.
The strength to keep up with your kids.
The resilience to perform at work.
And the confidence to know you’re taking care of yourself.
That’s who Empowered Man is built for.
I’m opening up 5 coaching spaces for the August intake.
If you’re ready to raise your standards, and become the husband, father, leader or man you know you’re capable of being.

These six movements won’t predict exactly how long you’ll live.
But together, they provide a practical snapshot of the physical qualities that matter if you want to stay strong, capable and independent as you get older.
1. Deep Squat Hold
Target: 2 minutes
Assesses ankle, hip and thoracic mobility, along with balance and movement control. A great indicator of how well your body moves as a whole.
2. No Hands Get Up
Target: Stand up from the floor without using your hands.
One of the best functional movement assessments we have. It combines strength, mobility, balance and coordination into one simple movement.
3. Single Leg Balance
Target: 1 minute per leg
Tests balance, stability and body control. Good balance is essential for maintaining confidence, movement quality and independence as you age.
4. Fists to Floor
Target: Touch your fists to the floor without bending your knees.
A quick screen for mobility through your hamstrings, hips and spine. It often highlights stiffness that develops after years of sitting and limited movement.
5. Push-Ups
Target: 20 perfect repetitions
A great test of upper-body strength, core stability and muscular endurance. Research has linked higher push-up capacity with better cardiovascular health.
6. Dead Hang
Target: 1 minute
A simple way to assess grip strength, shoulder function and upper-body endurance. Grip strength is one of the strongest physical markers associated with long-term health.
