แม้จะอยู่คนละถิ่น คนละที่ แต่พวกเธอทั้งสองก็มีสาแหรกที่เป็นเครือญาติกันอยู่
คำว่า ซากูระ Sukura กล่าวถึงพืชที่อยู่ในสกุล Prunus โดยนางพญาเสือโคร่งเป็นหนึ่งในสกุลนั้น โดยมีชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ว่า Prunus cerasoides ขณะที่ในประเทศญี่ปุ่นมีซากูระอยู่หลากหลายพันธุ์ โดยพันธุ์ที่พบมากสุดคือ โซะเมโยะชิโนะ 染井野 (somei-yoshino)ในชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ว่า Prunus × yedoensis
นางพญาเสือโคร่งแตกต่างจากซะกุระที่ญี่ปุ่นคือมีช่วงเวลาการออกดอกต่างกันคือ นางพญาเสือโคร่งออกดอกในเดือนธันวาคม -กุมภาพันธ์ ซึ่งเป็นช่วงฤดูหนาว ส่วนซากูระในญี่ปุ่นออกดอกช่วงเดือนมีนาคม-เมษายน ซึ่งเป็นช่วงฤดูใบไม้ผลิของญี่ปุ่น และมีการสันนิษฐานว่า นางพญาเสือโคร่งและซากูระมีบรรพบุรุษร่วมกันทางตอนใต้ของจีน และวิวัฒนาการออกไปจนมีสายพันธุ์มากมาย มีสีที่หลากหลาย
การจำแนกสายพันธุ์อย่างกว้าง นางพญาเสือโคร่งมีชื่ออย่างเป็นทางการว่า Wild Himalayan Cherry หมายถึงPrunusที่มีถิ่นกำเนิดในเอเชียทางตอนใต้ ตั้งแต่ประเทศไทยไปจนถึงเทือกเขาหิมาลัยในประเทศอินเดีย ส่วนซากูระถูกจำแนกเป็น Cherry blossom หมายถึง Prunusที่มีถิ่นกำเนิดในเอเชียทางตอนเหนือ ตั้งแต่ประเทศจีน, เกาหลี ไปจนถึงประเทศญี่ปุ่นและรัสเซียในเขตไซบีเรีย ดังนั้นพวกเธอทั้งสองจึงเป็นเครือญาติกัน สำคัญที่สุดต่างงดงามในแบบตัวต้นของตัวเองอย่างเท่าเทียม

The word "Sakura" refers to plants in the genus Prunus, with Himalayan cherry blossom being one of them, scientifically named Prunus cerasoides. In Japan, there are many varieties of sakura, the most common being Somei Yoshino. Somei-yoshino, scientifically known as Prunus × yedoensis,
The Thai cherry blossom (Prunus cerasoides) differs from Japanese cherry blossoms (Sakura) in its flowering period. Thai cherry blossoms bloom from December to February, during the winter months, while Japanese cherry blossoms bloom from March to April, during Japan's spring. It is hypothesized that Thai cherry blossoms and Japanese cherry blossoms share a common ancestor in southern China and have evolved into numerous varieties with diverse colors.
Broadly speaking, the Thai cherry blossom, officially known as Wild Himalayan Cherry, refers to Prunus species native to southern Asia, from Thailand to the Himalayas in India. Sakura, on the other hand, is classified as Cherry blossom, referring to Prunus species native to northern Asia, from China and Korea to Japan and Siberia in Russia. Therefore, both are related, and most importantly, equally beautiful in their own way.
