Venceslau Guterres “Abay” – Top Scorer and Key Player of the 2020/21 Season

The 2020/21 Pre-League Futsal Season in Timor-Leste marked a significant milestone in the structuring of the national futsal competition. The tournament was contested in a single-round format with the participation of 24 clubs, each team facing all others once. The primary objective of this competition was to determine the classification of clubs into the official divisions of the Timor-Leste Futsal League:

The clubs finishing in positions 1 to 10 were placed in Division 1.

The clubs finishing in positions 11 to 24 were placed in Division 2.

Within this historical context, Venceslau Guterres, widely known as “Abay”, emerged as one of the most remarkable players ever seen in the competition. Representing Becussi United, Abay demonstrated an exceptional scoring ability and consistency throughout the season.

During the campaign, Becussi United registered a total of 99 goals against its opponents. Out of these, 90 goals were officially recognized, and notably, 50 goals were scored by Abay alone. His extraordinary contribution was decisive in securing 7th place for Becussi United, which ensured the team’s promotion to Division 1 of the Timor-Leste Futsal League.

By achieving 50 goals in a single season, Abay established himself as the top scorer of the 2020/21 Pre-League and earned recognition as one of the best goal scorers in the history of Timor-Leste futsal. His performance remains a reference point in the development of the national futsal league and stands as an inspiration for future generations of players.
