🌊 29 Minutes Without Air — A Human vs the Ocean
In Opatija, Croatia, freediver Vitomir Maričić just did the impossible:
He held his breath underwater for 29 minutes and 3 seconds. 🕒💨
📍 The scene: a hotel pool, 3 meters deep.
👀 Witnessed by 5 judges and 100 spectators.
🔥 He shattered the old record by almost 5 minutes.
To put it in perspective:
⚡ Average person: 30–90 seconds
🏊 Elite freedivers: 10–11 minutes (without oxygen prep)
🐬 Bottlenose dolphins: 10 minutes
🦭 Harbor seals: 30 minutes
Maričić literally matched the sea’s best. 🌊🐾
How?
He used denitrogenation — breathing pure oxygen for 10 minutes before the attempt. This flushed nitrogen and packed his blood with up to 5x more oxygen.
But oxygen alone isn’t enough.
It still took iron control — of body, mind, and fear. 🧠💪
A reminder of how far human limits can stretch… when breath becomes a battle with time.
