Titanic Hotel Owner Mehmet Aygün Attacks Tatgolf Employees with Sledgehammer!

On Monday, July 22 at 3:00 pm, Mehmet Aygün, owner of Titanic Group, used a sledgehammer to attack employees performing leveling and measuring work at Tatgolf Intl Golf Club. One Tatgolf employee was injured in the incident.
The Titanic Deluxe Belek, the latest hotel owned by the Titanic Group, was opened recently with a dazzling media campaign. Located right next to the Tatgolf premises, the Titanic Deluxe Belek is the Titanic Group’s 12th hotel.

Endemic flora destroyed to increase sales prices
About two years ago, they submitted the required applications to government offices to build a road from the shore of Beşgöz creek to the sea in order to increase agency sales prices. However, the government offices did not give their approval for this route. Later, for some strange reason, these offices suddenly changed their minds and decided to issue a permit.

This road construction would destroy the Beşgöz creek’s natural environment, which had been protected for many years, as well as nearly 30 endemic species of birds. This road construction was actually just initial preparation. After constructing the road, their ultimate goal was to build a tourist facility that would bring thousands of tourists right on top of the nests made on the beach by loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta).

Court ruling “totally ignored”
Tatgolf immediately went into action and opened a court case at the Antalya 1st Administrative court and the Antalya 3rd Administrative court for a stay of ex*****on and to cancel the permit for this road and related jobs. Both courts ruled that these requests were valid and issued stays of ex*****on on May 8, 2013 and May 10, 2013.

The management of Titanic Deluxe Belek ignored the stay of ex*****on rulings issued by two different courts and completed the “Sea Access” road in two weeks, cutting hundreds of trees, illegally filling in Beşgöz creek and destroying the nests of endangered species of birds in the beautiful environs of Beşgöz creek.

As if that was not enough, they obtained “support” from Kadriye Municipality and deceived government offices in order to build a facility more than 500 m2 in size right on the Belek shore where loggerhead turtles build their nests, calling it a “countryside restaurant.” The facility includes dozens of pavilions, each the size of a room.

This series of scandals was reported widely by the local, national and international press, and this illegal assault on nature caused outrage in the environmental community.

Government offices choose to remain on the sidelines
For some strange reason, certain government institutions have chosen to do absolutely nothing about this illegal construction work, even though letters have been written by the Ministry of Environment and City Planning requesting that the court rulings be implemented to stop use of the road and tear down the buildings in question in addition to the hundreds of petitions about this matter written by citizens and by Tatgolf as well as dozens of articles released by the press, not to mention the two courts mentioned above issuing stays of ex*****on.

The management at Titanic Deluxe Belek has ignored rulings issued by courts of the Republic of Turkey and letters sent by the Ministry, and continues to break the law by ignoring all rules and principles and using the road that they built illegally.

On July 22, 2013 at 3:00 pm, a very sad incident occurred that should serve as a warning to humanity.

MEHMET AYGÜN, owner of Titanic Group, came to the Tatgolf premises, used a SLEDGEHAMMER to attack Tatgolf employees who were performing leveling and measuring tasks, wounded one employee, uttered unspeakable curses, threatened to kill the employee he attacked and then got on his cart and drove rapidly away from the scene.

Driving onto the golf course and wielding clubs and crowbars
As if that was not enough, Mehmet Aygün and his employees drove a vehicle onto Tatgolf hole number 6 soon after that incident and intentionally damaged the grass on the course, making it unusable.

About 25-30 construction workers employed by Titanic hotel and carrying crowbars and clubs entered the premises, cursing and slandering the personnel working at the facility.

The incident was documented with official reports, photographs, witness statements and hospital reports. Indictments were filed and legal action was initiated against Mehmet Aygün, who owns dozens of hotels in Turkey.

Violence caused by boundary dispute
Ignoring the stay of ex*****on issued by the Antalya 1st and 3rd Administrative Courts, Titanic employees were working 24 hours a day on the road construction. The engineers must have been hurrying to complete the construction as soon as possible, because only when it was too late did they realize that a large section of the road they had built infringed on the boundaries of the Tatgolf premises.

Titanic employees are currently bullying Tatgolf employees who are working to identify the property line, removing stakes placed by surveyors, wiping away lime laid down on the property line, and pushing Tatgolf employees around. Dozens of employees, from construction workers to chefs, are given crowbars and clubs and made to keep watch on the Tatgolf property line.

This illegal, unlawful and inhumane behavior of the Titanic managers makes one wonder: “are we out in the wilderness?”
