Thank you Tennis.com, African coaches and tennis lovers
It's such an honor and privilege to be used as a vessel/voice for improvement. This is all about those that have done so much to grow and keep tennis alive in Zimbabwe and all across Africa. There are so many unsung heroes out there that are developing incredible players, changing lives, inspiring and giving kids a chance at a future they may not have had. We are only getting started - let's go Africa!

A couple of weeks ago I got to spend some time with some of my favorite people. I just wanted to say thanks for always making me feel at home "my big brothers David and Blessing Bvunzawabaya". May your families and businesses continue to thrive and inspire.

Thank you to Matt Muspratt, Becky Lebowitz and Serve4Africa's efforts as I was included in this great article on the state of African Tennis featured in the NY Times today. Matt, please continue your research, assistance and involvement. Without you some stories would not be told. Not everyone will be a world champion but it's the lessons and attitude throughout the journey that creates the legacies we hear about and live with. A great read for anyone interested in learning about Tennis in Africa from a unique perspective.
Africa’s Tennis Talent, Though Obscure, Is Burgeoning The continent has skilled players, but a lack of resources and opportunities, including access to top competition, keeps them from breaking through.

To all those that have supported me throughout the years, I love that you stay true to this journey, just as I have. Keep waiting on it! Been counted out so many times, I can't even count.

Good day today!
Really glad I got to meet up with one of my favorite people, Shelia Bishop of the amazing LoveAll. We had an awesome chat with Thabani accompanied by the constant antics from my little nephew, Cameron.
I must say though, the vision and energy this blessing of a woman has is immeasurable, she and her team are definitely SHIFTING THE CULTURE!
This is a very tough post for me, so please bare with me.

I was in Nigeria almost a year ago and always enjoy it there.
Usually I am up early getting ready for practice, but had a restless night. I had a conversation with my father that went past my bed time which always shows that unconditional love, regardless of the disagreements that sometimes come with conversations. Then they are some other personal issues I was dealing with over the past few days aiding to my sleepless night. But then I received a message from a very good friend of mine, couldn't comprehend it initially until it said innocent live shot and killed.
The thing is we read a lot of these unlawful downright evil things but rarely do we understand them on an emotional level until it's happened to someone we know. Today that was my case.
Almost a year ago I spent a week in Lagos, Nigeria and enjoyed the simplistic beauty all the Africans have. I ran my first camp for Serve4Africa and it was educational to me, fun and more importantly put me at peace. Then I met a young talented female tennis player named Angel. I was so excited about her - she truck the ball really well and we just got to know one another throughout the camp. She asked me questions on how to get better and some of her ambitions, obviously some of them influenced by her mother who obviously wanted the best for her.
I was eager to help her as much as I could and Serve4Africa was trying to get her a scholarship to a high performance training program for her to start at a young age - ultimately to be a WTA player and grand slam contender.
This morning I hear that her mother was shot and killed by some policeman while she was waiting at a hotel reception. With the amount of weeks tennis professionals spend in hotels, it hits home and this just doesn't make sense shooting someone at the reception! This policeman needs something more than discipline and law enforcement in Nigeria should do something about this. I know the role African women play in taking care of their loved ones especially how difficult it can be to make ends meet in a tough economy and this talented young girl I came across in Lagos has to go through that. Her mother was the engine that kept her dream going. We hope Serve4Africa can assist in helping girls in her position across the world.
My deepest condolences go to Angel McLeod's family!
