OMA Combat System The foundation of the OMA Combat System is derived from five main Martial Arts (MA) styles: Kick Boxing, Jui-Jitsu, Shotokan Karate, Muay Thai, and Krav Maga.

Strength isn’t built by making life unnecessarily difficult.
It’s built by giving young people challenges they can face, work through, and eventually overcome.
Every small victory teaches them something important:
I can do hard things.
That lesson reaches far beyond the dojo.

OMA PHILOSOPHY SERIES
EPISODE 02 — THE LEGACY OF A TEACHER
Watch the full episode and let me know:
What do you believe makes a great teacher?

Every teacher leaves something behind.
The question is… what do we want that legacy to be?
Students who can perform our techniques?
Students who fight exactly like us?
Or students who become something greater than a copy of the person who taught them?

At OMA, we believe the responsibility of a teacher goes beyond teaching techniques.
It is about developing people.
Teaching discipline without taking away individuality.
Teaching principles while allowing students to find their own path.
Challenging them, correcting them, supporting them… and eventually giving them the confidence to stand on their own.
Because one day, our students may become teachers themselves.
And when that happens, what we have given them should be more than movements.
It should be something they can carry forward.
Respect. Discipline. Humility. Courage. Compassion. Strength. Character.
That is the legacy worth leaving.

Strength and kindness are not opposites.
We want our students to grow into strong, capable people , not aggressive ones.

Martial arts should teach us when to be patient, when to walk away, when to show compassion… and when we need the ability to stand our ground and protect ourselves or someone else.
Because being prepared isn't about looking for a fight.
It's about knowing that you have the ability to face one if you ever need to.

This is another short excerpt from Episode 01 — The Living Art, part of the OMA Philosophy Series.
But every martial art is ultimately passed from one person to another...
And that brings us to the next question:
What is the responsibility of the person doing the teaching?
Tomorrow, we explore that question.

Martial arts did not become what they are today because each generation simply repeated what came before. They grew because teachers shared their knowledge, students explored it, and each generation contributed something of its own.
To honour a tradition is not to keep it frozen in time. It is to understand its principles, carry its lessons forward, and allow it to remain alive.
That is the philosophy behind the Open Martial Arts Combat System.

OMA PHILOSOPHY | EPISODE 01: THE LIVING ART

Why do we call it the Open Martial Arts Combat System?
Because martial arts were never meant to stop evolving.

Every system we practise today was shaped by people who questioned, explored, tested and refined what they had learned. What we now call tradition was once somebody's innovation.

At OMA, we honour the knowledge and teachings passed down to us. But honouring tradition does not mean closing our minds to new knowledge.

We remain open to learning. Open to questioning. Open to adapting. Open to becoming better.

We teach our students more than techniques to memorize. We give them principles to understand, skills to develop and the freedom to discover their own abilities as martial artists.
Because the goal is not to create copies of the teacher. It is to develop students who can one day take what they have learned and carry it even further.

We preserve the principles. But we improve the methods.
This is why we call it The Living Art.
An art that continues to grow through every teacher, every student and every generation.

Everybody sees the moment the brick breaks.
They don't see the days that came before it.
The same techniques.
The same drills.
The same corrections.
Again. And again. And again.
That's the part of martial arts that isn't always exciting.

But that's where the transformation happens.
Discipline can feel repetitive because progress is built by doing the things that need to be done, even when they're no longer new, even when you're tired, and even when nobody is watching.
And then one day, the person doing those same drills isn't the same person who started them.
Stronger.
More capable.
More confident.
More disciplined.

The curse of discipline is that every day looks the same.
The curse of indiscipline is that every year does.

Courage doesn't always look fearless.
Sometimes courage is being nervous... and stepping forward anyway.
Sometimes it's facing someone bigger, stronger or more experienced than you, and trusting what you've learned.
Sometimes it's getting knocked down, making a mistake, becoming tired... and choosing to continue.
That's one of the reasons we train.
At OMA, we're not simply teaching children how to punch, kick or defend themselves.
We're helping them discover something much more important:
“I can face difficult things.”
Because one day the opponent won't be standing across from them wearing gloves.
It may be pressure.
Fear.
Failure.
Bullying.
Self-doubt.
Or one of the many challenges life will eventually put in front of them.
And when that day comes, we want them to have already learned how to stand their ground.
Courage is not the belt around your waist.
It is the heart you bring to the fight.

Sometimes you don't feel ready for the next level.
You question yourself.
You wonder if you're good enough.
You see everything you still need to improve... while your instructors sometimes see something in you that you haven't learned to see in yourself yet.

That's part of what happened at our recent OMA grading.
Some of our students were genuinely surprised when their names were called and they learned that they had passed.
But earning a new rank doesn't mean:
“I have mastered everything.”
It means:
“I have demonstrated enough to be trusted with what comes next.”

A new belt brings new techniques.
New challenges.
New responsibilities.
Higher expectations.
And sometimes, being given that responsibility is exactly what causes a young person to grow into it.
That's why the belt isn't the destination.
It's an invitation to become worthy of what it represents.

So to our newly promoted OMA students:
Don't worry about whether you feel completely ready.
Come back to the dojo.
Train.
Learn.
Make mistakes.
Improve.
And become the martial artist your instructors already believe you are capable of becoming.
The next chapter has already begun.
