We have your child practice backkicking with a board because it is the fundamental building block for comfort and balance in the water. My primary aim is to teach them to kick from their hips rather than their knees, which builds a strong, efficient foundation for all their future strokes. By using the board, I can help them keep their head neutral and their body flat, safely turning that initial nervousness into a smooth, controlled glide. We start with the board for support to build confidence, and as they get stronger, we gradually transition to arms-at-sides to help them develop true independence and better body control. It is such a rewarding milestone to watch them discover how stable and capable they are!
Aquatica SWIM School
We offer safe, high-quality aquatic programs for all ages, all abilities. We build Water Smart swimmers who love and respect the water.
At Aquatica, we are dedicated to providing gentle, child-centered, and confidence-based survival swimming instruction. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under the age of four (4) and second leading cause of accidental death for children under fourteen (14). We believe that ALL children should know how to swim and be safe in and around any aquatic environment at all tim
Using a kickboard with front kicks - the goal is to build that initial forward momentum while keeping their body long and streamlined. This drill is vital for teaching them to keep their eyes down and head neutral, which keeps their hips high in the waterโpreventing the "sinking" feeling beginners often have. By focusing on steady, straight-legged kicks originating from the hips, we build the endurance and leg strength needed for frontcrawl. We begin with a firm grip on the board for stability, and as they find their rhythm, we challenge them to move to just one hand, eventually working toward independence in the water. Itโs all about helping them feel fast, confident, and in control!
Once our swimmers have mastered their swim-float-swim and are independent, we introduce them to foundational stroke skills using a noodle which gives them some support and stability. This progression allows us to transition from "feeling safe" to "mastering mechanics," ensuring they develop both the joy of swimming and the discipline of a strong, efficient stroke.

In 2021, he was just a baby.
He wasn't learning strokes.
He wasn't training for competitions.
He wasn't trying to impress anyone.
He was learning one simple thing...
How to survive.
Fast forward five years.
Today, he still instinctively rolls onto his back, relaxes, breathes, and floats with confidence. No panic. No fear. No hesitation.
That's the power of teaching a child a skill they carry for life.
Swimming isn't just another extracurricular activity.
Unlike piano lessons that stay with the piano...
Unlike football that stays on the field...
Unlike dance that stays in the studio...
Water competency goes wherever life takes you.
Whether it's a family beach day...
A hotel pool on vacation...
A river crossing...
A boating trip...
Or an unexpected fall into water...
Your child takes this skill with them.
No batteries.
No equipment.
No Wi-Fi.
No coach standing nearby.
Just knowledge, confidence, and muscle memory that could one day save their life.
At Aquatica Swim School, we don't simply teach children to swim from one side of the pool to the other.
๐ We teach them to think.
๐ To stay calm.
๐ To breathe.
๐ To float.
๐ To make good decisions in the water.
Because drowning prevention isn't about teaching children to swim fast.
It's about giving them the skills to survive long enough to be rescuedโor even rescue themselves.
This photo is more than a "before and after."
It's proof that early investment creates lifelong protection.
Five years later...
The lesson is still there.
The confidence is still there.
The survival skills are still there.
And that's why every lesson matters.
Because water safety isn't a seasonal skill. It's a portable life skill your child will carry for the rest of their life. ๐๐
When I teach your swimmer how to perform a vertical rotationโturning from a front-facing or submerged position to a safe, upright positionโI am giving them the ultimate tool for aquatic independence. My aim here is to foster survival autonomy. In a real-world scenario, a child needs the presence of mind to instantly transition from a face-down position to finding their air and/or reaching for safety, whether that is the wall or a floating position. We practice this so that if they ever lose their balance, they donโt panic; they simply "pivot" to safety. It is a powerful moment when they realize that they have the skill to help themselves, turning a potential emergency into a calm, controlled, and safe response.
