We’re pleased to welcome Jamelia as Gateway Athletics’ Director of Academic Development.

Based in Toronto, Jamelia brings more than 15 years of experience across education, leadership and institutional partnerships. She holds a Master of Education and has worked across postsecondary teaching, research, professional development and programme development in Canada.

Her experience spans both academic and community settings, and her hands-on approach gives her a strong understanding of how young people learn, develop and prepare for future opportunities.

As Gateway continues to evolve, Jamelia will help strengthen the academic and development side of the pathways we are building for young people.

We’re excited to have her perspective, expertise and partnership experience contributing to this next chapter.

Young athletes can have the talent, discipline and ambition to go further, yet still miss life-changing opportunities simply because the pathway was never clear.

We believe they deserve better, and that is what we are working to change.

Gateway Athletics has always meant a lot to me, so stepping into this role feels both exciting and meaningful.

As CEO, I’m looking forward to helping shape what comes next, strengthening the organisation, building the right partnerships and creating more
opportunities for athletes.

When Stephania first joined us, she wasn’t a goalkeeper. She wasn’t even sure where she fit on the field. But what she did have was a dream and the will to fight for it. With no specialized training, no shortcuts—just pure dedication—she stepped up, learned, and grew into a player that everyone has noticed.

There’s still a long road ahead, and while she may not be where she wants to be yet, she is miles ahead of where she started. That’s what growth looks like. That’s what courage looks like.

So let this be a reminder: You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.
