🇬🇾🥋 Congratulations to Our Guyana Team! 🥋🇬🇾

The Goshin-Do Karate Dojo family extends our heartfelt congratulations to Shihan-Dai Jermaine Chapman and our Guyana team on their outstanding performance at the Shuriken Suriname Karate Championship, held on August 16, 2026, in Nickerie, Suriname.

The championship brought together mixed martial artists from Suriname, along with three teams from Guyana and one team from Trinidad & Tobago, providing our athletes with another wonderful opportunity to test their skills on the international stage.

We are extremely proud to share the Guyana team's impressive results:

🥇 Kata – Six 1st Place
🥈 Team Kata – 2nd Place
🥈 Kumite/Sparring – Two 2nd Place

These results are a wonderful reflection of the discipline, dedication, courage and hard work demonstrated by our students and their instructors.

Competing internationally requires much more than technical ability—it takes confidence, commitment and the willingness to step onto the floor and proudly represent your dojo and country.

We commend Shihan-Dai Jermaine Chapman and the entire team for their continued commitment to developing our young martial artists and providing them with opportunities to grow through competition and international exposure.

To each of our competitors: Congratulations! Whether you stood on the podium individually or contributed as part of the team, you represented yourselves, your instructors, your dojo and Guyana with pride. The entire Goshin-Do Karate Dojo family celebrates this achievement with you and looks forward to seeing you continue to grow and excel.

Happy 70th Birthday to Our Beloved Hanshi Anthony Sydney!!! 🥋❤️

Today, we celebrate a truly extraordinary man—a teacher, a mentor, a leader, and a father figure to so many of us.

Hanshi, words can never fully express how grateful we are for everything you have poured into our lives. For decades, you have given so much of yourself, often sacrificing your own time and energy so that we could become better martial artists, better people, and stronger members of our communities. Through your guidance, you've taught us that true strength is found not in winning battles, but in living with humility, integrity, discipline, respect, and compassion.

Many of us first walked into the dojo as timid children, uncertain teenagers, or adults looking for something more. Because of your patience, unwavering belief in us, and your constant encouragement, we found confidence, purpose, resilience, and a family. The lessons you've taught us reach far beyond punches and kicks—they have shaped our character and continue to guide us through every stage of life.

Your legacy cannot be measured by the number of black belts you have produced, but by the countless lives you have touched, the families you have inspired, and the values you have passed on that will continue for generations to come.

Today, we celebrate not only your 70th birthday but a lifetime of selfless service, unwavering dedication, and unconditional commitment to your students and to Goshin-Do Karate Dojo. We are all better because of you.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in us, challenging us, encouraging us, and never giving up on us—even when we wanted to give up on ourselves.

May God continue to bless you abundantly with good health, renewed strength, peace, happiness, and many more wonderful years surrounded by the love of your family, friends, and students whose lives you have forever changed.

Happy 70th Birthday, Hanshi. Thank you for your wisdom, your sacrifices, your example, and your love. It is one of the greatest honours of our lives to call you our instructor.

With our deepest love, respect, and endless gratitude,

OSU!

Today, we proudly celebrate 40 years of excellence, discipline, and tradition at Goshin-Do Karate Dojo.

Goshin-Do is led by our President, Hanshi Anthony Sydney, Honbucho for the English-speaking Caribbean under Kuniba-Kai International—one of the largest Karate organizations in the world, led by Soke Kozo Kuniba and headquartered in Osaka, Japan.

A proud native of Trinidad & Tobago, Hanshi Sydney began his Karate journey in May 1974 and has now dedicated over 52 years to the art. His life’s work has gone far beyond teaching techniques—he has committed himself to shaping lives, instilling discipline, self-control, respect for authority, and building strong, confident individuals within our communities.

Since opening our doors on May 1, 1986 in St. James, Trinidad, Goshin-Do Karate Dojo has grown tremendously. What began as a single dojo with just a handful of students, has expanded into a strong and united family, with branches across Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Barbados, St. Lucia, and the United States (Louisiana & New Jersey).

Over the decades, we have had the privilege of training and mentoring thousands of students, guiding them not only in Karate, but in life—helping them become more focused, respectful, and well-rounded individuals.

To our parents, we extend our deepest gratitude. Thank you for your continued trust, support, and for choosing us as your preferred Dojo for your children. It is truly an honor that the Instructors of Goshin-Do Karate Dojo do not take for granted—to be entrusted with guiding, teaching, and leading your children on their Karate journeys. Your partnership and belief in what we do make all of this possible.

To our students—past and present—thank you for being part of this journey. Your dedication, growth, and spirit continue to inspire us every day.

As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we remain committed to upholding the values that have defined us for four decades and to continuing to build a legacy of excellence for generations to come.

40 Years Strong. One Dojo. One Family. One Path. 🥋✨

Dear Parents, Students & Instructors,

It is with deep sorrow that I (on my behalf of my family) inform you of the passing of my beloved grandmother Angela Doreen (lovingly known by most as "Mummy Doy") - Hanshi Tony's mother. She passed away in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Due to the Easter weekend, and some family flying in for her funeral - The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9th at 12:00 PM, followed by the burial at Mucurapo Cemetery. As a result, I am so sorry to say that St. James classes & exams will be canceled on that day (Thursday 9th April). We sincerely hope you understand, and thank you in advance for that understanding during this difficult time for our family. The St. James students’ exam, originally scheduled for Thursday, will now be held on Saturday 11th April, from 9:00AM. If there are any students carded in St. James to grade who cannot make it on Saturday, Hanshi will conduct their examination the following week.

For those who knew my Grandma and would like to pay their respects, you are more than welcome to attend the funeral service.

Thank you all for your continued support, kindness, and understanding.

With gratitude,
Shihan Marisa Sydney on behalf of the Sydney Family
❤️ 🙏🏽
