Sunday 23rd June 2024
Quarter finals match between
Independence sports club and Three Roads Knight Riders @ Ccotts Road rec ground.

The i
Independence boys had the little village of scotts road shaking on sunday afternoon when they stole victory from the men in green all the way from chickland village in freeport. And the shaking was not the after shock from the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that we felt on saturday but the nail biting nerve wrecking finally to a superb game played by both teams.

Winning the toss on what was set out to be a gorgeous day for cricket the home boys skipper had one thing on his mind.(win toss, bat first). And he rang the bell to summon the destructive opening pair of Alvin Latchman and Vivek Gadraj. This two have been setting examples to the youngsters in the village by their hunger and passion for cricket by scoreing effortlessly for the season thus far.

The duo started off slowly due to some good all round bowling from the tkr(men in green) opening bowlers with the score reading 3 overs 16 runs when Alvin was bowled in the 4th over for 8 runs. Rohan singh joined Vivek and they struggled within the next few overs until Vivek fell for a slower ball and was caught short cover point while mustering 11 runs. The score card reading 2 wickets 36 runs in 7 overs.
Shane Gosine returned to the side and he had a point to prove but the aggressive, muscular powerhouse Shaney could only walk away with a golden duck on his shoulder after he was bowled playing down the wrong line.
With the score remaining the same,Shane Latchman joined Rohan and they both took on a positive approach by getting the boundries and finding gaps between feilders. They erected a pathnership of 55 runs when rohan was caught long off in the 19th over trying to cover drive over the feilder but falling short. He ended with an impressive 42 runs,a valuable amount to that due to the experienced and consistant line and length bowling by the men in green. With 19 overs gone,4 wickets down and the score on 99 the skipper Ravi Seetaram decided he had to take the helm amd steer his team away from this storm. Shane Latchman managed to gather 10 run together with his captain before he departed for 20 runs getting caught mid wicket from a short ball.
Mahase Goberdhan was in next but he was bowled for 2 after playing the wrong line. With the score slowly moving higher,Sachin Baboolal joined his skipper and together they stood up against the brutal and devastating bowlers of the Three Roads knight Riders plundering a massive 73 runs pathnership and giving their team a winning total.the skipper was caught in the 30th over trying to lift one over the midwicket region on an impressive captains knock of 51 runs.
Jason Gray came to the crease to face 2 balls but he as well will need to lift and carry out his golden duck as the home boys finish off on a well deserved 183 runs for 8 wickets in 30 overs.

After the 15 minutes half time interval the men in green were in to take strike.
And with Rohan Singh firing up his arm from the temple end, he started off nicely getting only 4 in his first over. Shane Latchman woke up with a passion that day and he said to his team mates i want 5 today and i will get 5,he ran like a stallion and the three roads opening pair had to defend with haste when he delivered. The next few overs will see their reign end in peril as they were both hammered for over 8 runs per over the scorecard changing from 2 overs 8runs to 5 overs 43runs. Yes a massive blow to the head of the monster. But this monster in the form of the Independence Sports club has other tactics to play. Shane latchman would go on to bowl on the trot and complete his spell with figures of 6 overs 26 runs 3 wickets, a profound bowling machine for such a crucial game.with the batsmen getting familiar with the pace it was time to bring in the likes of Vishan Moon and Shane Gosine and they both held the game tight with the score card reading 117 runs 20 overs 4 wickets.
The tension around the savannah the voices yelling and shouting "take that wicket", "fly them stumps" could be heard muttering and the supporters from the men in green were all around the boundryline cheering on their players.
66 runs needed from 60 legal balls.
Knowing exactly when to attack with his bowling the skipper Ravi Seetaram came with his bag of tricks but today was not his day for bowling as his first ball was bowled he got muscle cramps and had to hop and bowl the remaining balls.nevertheles his over only got them 3 runs.putting him on the sidline for the rest of the game. A critical blow to the home boys.
Jason Gray was the penultimate bowler for the home boys as he wrecked the middle order of the men in green and had them 135/6 in 23 overs.
With superb feilding from the youngster Mohan Moon, in the 24th over uprooting the stumps with a run out from on the long off area setting the scorecard 138/7 in 24 overs.
Jason Gray would claim his 4th wicket of the game after a superb stumped out by Alvin (wc) in the 27th over to leave the score 153/8.
Rohan Singh bowled the 28th over with the men in green needing 30 runs for victory.
Rohan was plundered for 15 runs and then the green men started running all around the rec ground screaming and yelling as they had gotten closer to their target.
Wanting 15 more runs to victory jason gray held his nerve and gave 6 runs to the men in green. Leaving only 1 over needing 9 runs Shane Gosine came to wrap the side up but his tactics made things worse when the opponents slipped a boundry from under our nose. With the nerves and tension shane bowled a wide now only 3 runs again another wide. Some spectators already began to cry as they still cheered us on and tried to gather the strength for their players. With 3 ball remaining the batsmen decided to take a su***de run and got away with it.
Now the scores are level with 2 balls remaining. And they all say with pressure pipe does buss well it buss when the Three Roads Knight Riders last batsman went across the line of middle stump to leg sweep and was given lbw by the umpire..
What an uproar around the ground, Scotts Road was like a fish market and nothing could be heard not even your own voice.
What a finish to a well fought game.

NOTE:
With both team being tied on 183.
The rule 11.(a)applies,which states;
The team losing the lesser number of wickets is the winner.

Sunday june 9th 2024
Three roads knight riders vs independence sports club
@ scotts road rec ground.

As forcasted for this weeked the weather channel was on the button and the heaven opened up with bursts of showers from as early as 2am right up until the evening.
And as the saying goes"rain does only stop cricket". And so it did. Our game was called off due to heavy downpour and a waterlogged outfeild.
Leaving the two official umpires no choice but to call off the game for next sunday as there are 2 reserved days for this quarter final match up.

The only disadvantage that occured today was the three roads knights travelling all the way from central trinidad(chickland) to rival against the home boys as they would have to retrace their steps to do battle in better conditions and a more competitive environment for cricket.

But despite the weather and cancellation of the game.both teams had their pots, fire crackers, meats ready for the fire.
With the rains singing in the background the three roads chef chunkay the curry and had the place smoking with the patching and as they say the pot made the "charrr"" when he added his ingreindients. the environment was one of togetherness/comradry with both teams cooking their foodstuff and making what was a most wonderful evening, with cards being played and experiences/expertise being shared among the players.

We would host the three road knight riders team once again next week and pray that it will be a most memorable and exciting game...
Ending on the note that rain will stop cricket but NEVER a good time🙏..

**Sunday 26th may 2024. Independence Sports Club vs Mohess Road Falcons. Big 16 knock out/qualifier game.*

This Sunday was like a final game for the home boys and with a well prepared wicket, winning the toss was always the better option. Luck was on our side as we won the toss and elected to take first strike.
The home boys opening pair of Alvin and Vivek proved themselves and showed the vital and important role they play in the team as they held strong and gave the boys a solid start. Blasting a 98 run partnership in 11 overs. With vivek being stumped out on 48(32). Ivan Seenathsingh joined Alvin and they also cameoed a good pathnership of 64 then Alvin was bowled for 77(61) in the 19th over with the score reading 162/2. Ivan was stumped soon after with the score remaining the same but 3 down. Pressure was in the camp and the captain Ravi Seetaram went in next but getting a full tossed ball down the leg his decision was to clubber but was caught deep backward square for a golden duck.
Someone said it was like a bad breeze blew through the air after that when the home boys lost 5 wickets and just scoring 20 runs in 4 overs. Yes it was like obeah pass on the recreation ground. The old talk from the opponents team could be heard echoing around the ground. With silence from our spectators, the team mates urged and uplifted the new batsmen inside the crease. With the momentum that Derrick Ramroop and Mahase Goberdhan picked up they had the village lively once again. Exploding a massive 8th wicket pathnership of 63 runs in 6 overs. With Derrick Ramroop not out on 44(20) and Mahase 23(19). To give their team 245/7 in 29 overs when time was called.

With a decent total on the board the home boys had half the job done and they knew exactly how to execute the other half with very very good weather for cricket.

Rohan Singh opened from the temple end and Shane Latchman from the pavillion.
Together they held the openers down leaking very few boundries and after 9 overs Mohess Road Falcons was 45/2. With the pressure on,the pace was doing the job and Jason
Gray and Ivan Seenathsingh also clipped the Falcons wings. Producing another excellent spell each. After 19 overs the score read 112/6.
With some miss feilding and bad judgement our home boys got the bad breeze once again and it created chaos on the feild resulting in boundries being scored and bad balls being bowled, But the dedication and high spirited moral that the Independence s.c has it takes more than bad breeze to stop us and it is this reason they have been undefeated in the past 13 games.
Ravi Reetaram and Vishan Moon came in to bowl and wrapped up the remaining batsmen and the boys bowled out the Falcons for 151/10 in 24.1 overs.

Magnificiant win boys and good luck in the next few weeks. Remember to work hard and push yourselves because when we climb higher it will be harder...again job well done and heads up high as we move into the big 8 rounds of the competetion.

Sunday 12th may 2024

Independence s Sports c Club
Vs
Borde Narve Youths

The Independence boys journeyed to the village of Borde Narve located between the Lengua/Barrackpore and Princess Town area.
Winning the coin toss and electing to bat first, our boys saw it fit since the wicket was not going to get better and they agreed to use the pace while we could.

Alvin Latchman together with Vivek Gadraj opened the batting and they struggled to get boundries due to some excellent bowling and feilding by the Borde Narve team.
Independence lost their first wicket in the 8 over when Vivek was bowled going across for a half pitched ball that kept low.
With the score on 66.vivek scoring 32(25).
Alvin Latchman was lbw in the next over adding 31(26)to leave the score on 67 for 2 wkts in 10 overs.
Rohan Singh and Ivan Seenathsingh steadied the innings and with some superb batting from the pair they put up a 50 wicket pathnership when Rohan was bowled in the 16th over with the score on 113 Rohan scoring 21(18). Ivan Seenathsingh reached his first half centry for the season,Finishing on 53(45). With just 15 mins remaining Sachin Baboolal went in and gave the independence boys a hefty 15(12). With time being called the innings finished on 212/9 in 29 overs.

After the 15 mins break it was time for our boys to take their turn to burn in the blazing hot sun. Starting the game with medium pace Rohan Singh was off to a belting first over which conceeded 10 runs the next over was bowled by Shane Latchman and the pace was not doing well, with the score reading 17runs in 2 overs.
But some superb feilding by Rohan Singh would get the non striker batsman run out due to Rohan Singh getting a touch on his finger then to the stumps after the batsman straight drived his delivery back at him. This creating the breakthrough for the independence team.
Score reading 1 for 25 in 3 overs.
The opening bowlers took a severe beating with some missfeilding and over throwing from our boys. The Borde Narve team and spectators getting the better end of our rivalry with them laughing and hurling words at us.after 6 overs 65 runs for 1wicket.

The bowling had to change to off spin and Ivan Seenathsing paired off with skipper Ravi Seetaram. Together they held the opponents down to a point they were struggling to score runs, the spectators were as if they left and went home to be with their mothers for mothers day, the silence around the ground was unbelievable. In the 15th over the score was drastically changed to 5 wickets 107 runs. The independence guys showing the home team that we dont give up and loose team spirit so easily and
With the aggressive batsmen lofting catches and getting their stumps dismantled, giving away their wickets. left us with the tailenders and together with diciplined bowling from Jason Gray,Rohan Singh,Shane Latchman they wrapped up the rest of the borde narve youths for 170 runs in 22.5 overs for 10 wickets.

Giving us our 9th consecutive win for the season and the 4th of 5 games for this rounds. Very well done guys🙏.
