Do pigeons avoid low-visibility areas?

In racing pigeon flights,

physical condition matters —

but weather often plays a key role in the return.

When visibility drops,

pigeons may have more difficulty recognizing terrain

and judging direction during high-speed flight.

This can be one reason why some pigeons take unexpected detours

or change their flight route under certain weather conditions.

🚀 With the Skyleader V3.0 Weather Layer,

invisible weather conditions become visible flight data.

From this track map, we can observe an interesting pattern:

Most pigeons appeared to avoid areas with lower visibility.

The red track is especially clear.

This pigeon’s route bypassed two low-visibility areas.

This suggests that pigeons may adjust their route during flight

based on weather conditions,

choosing a more favorable path back home.
