49th ENKALON TROPHY & IFS DAVID WOOD TROPHY RACES 🏆

MCRRCI PRESS RELEASE 11/04/2025

Easter extravaganza weekend of motorcycle racing will get under way in just a weeks’ time, the Motor Cycle Road Racing Club of Ireland are again hosting the first of two events over the easter weekend. Promoting the second round of the Ulster Superbike Championship at the Downpatrick area circuit.

The traditional Easter Enkalon Trophy event now in its 49th year, Superbike Pro riders will contest for the Enkalon Trophy, hoping to pick up the prestigious Cup, which was first won by Ray McCullough riding a 350 Yamaha in 1977.

The IFS David Wood Trophy is awarded to the Supersport Pro class.

All race classes have four races over the two days and the overall point scorers picking up the silverware for podium positions.
Bumper entry list for this Easters event with about 170 entries will make some fantastic racing in all classes, this is boosted by the latest announcement for the Superbike class, SBT Ireland putting up a £12k sponsorship into the Championship end of season prize fund.

Action at the Bishopscourt Racing Circuit will start at 9am on Friday for the scheduled ten practice sessions, plus the popular “Sail to Pole” for the fastest nine Supersport Pro qualifiers, they will have a 6 min shootout session to try and set the fastest time and pole position in the races!

This shoot out is unique to the IFS David Wood Trophy Supersport Pro class and is sponsored by Coleraine based Nutt Travel.

Racing should commence approximately 12pm Friday and 9am Saturday all races will count towards USBK championship. A 40-race program is on the cards over two days and if the first round is anything to go by, racing will be fast and furious. Event admission is £20pp and with Thursday, Friday overnight camping is available, no excuse to miss the event. B&B, Hotels and hostels are available in the surrounding area if needed.

Once again, we are truly grateful for having our loyal sponsors for this event which enables us to provide a prize fund and awards for the competitors. We would like to personally thank all those people for their generosity and support of the event and to our title sponsor IFS Global Logistics.

Headline runners in SBT Ireland, Enkalon Superbikes are previous winners Carl Phillips, Mike Brown and Ryan Gibson. Also, in the mix will be visiting rider Richard Cooper, Ross Irwin, Gary McCoy, USBK Champion Jonny Campbell, Aaron Spence, Korie McGreevy, Brian McCormack, Isle of Man’s Conor Cummins, Andy Reid, Thomas Ogrady, but anyone within the full grid of Pro riders entered could lift the overall prized trophy and £600.

IFS David Wood Pirelli Supersport Pro has championship leader after the round one Richard Cooper on the Russell Yamaha, he must be a favourite again. Korie McGreevy McAdoo Kawasaki will surely be looking to make it three in a row for the David Wood Trophy, Gary McCoy, Christian Elkin, Mike Brown, Graeme Irwin, Mark Conlin, Conor Cummins, AJ Carey are all possible winners.
This trophy event has Pirelli Tyre prizes and £400 prize money for overall point scorers in the four races.

Supertwins class has resurged this year after entries fell away the last few years, this event has a separate Supertwin race, again English rider Cooper stands at the top of this championship class after double wins last time out from Gary McCoy and Caolan Irwin. Christian Elkin is always a front runner in the class and with a non- championship or point scoring entry of Rhys Coates on a BMW900, from the Nikki Coates BSB Team, this will be interesting to see how it performs against a Supertwin machines.

The event sees a great entry of Sidecars, the “Super Easter Sidecar Weekend” a mini championship over Friday, Saturday and Monday at Kirkistown. Bumper entry including outfits from across the water.
Tony Baker & Conor Parkin, George Holden & Jake Roberts, John Holden & Phil Knapton, Darren Odwyer & Mark Gash the number 1 plate holders are just some of the three wheelers in action. Overall winner of the weekend will collect the prestigious Marty Murphy Cup on Monday afternoon.
