Live with paddle. Work with paddles.
Every Wednesday after work be like… rolling with friends in a warm pool❤️
Gearlab Outdoors
Gears for the Refined Outdoorist.
Our co-founder Chungshih often travels overseas to paddle with friends.
Not to collect destinations, and not to chase milestones—but to keep life moving at a human pace.
Different countries, different coastlines. Some trips are with longtime companions, others with people he has only just met. Yet once the paddles touch the water, everyone settles into the same rhythm. Words become optional. Direction becomes shared.
They launch, drift, land, eat, and laugh—sometimes in silence—learning to read the wind, adjust to the sea, and trust one another when conditions change. In those moments, distance doesn’t feel far, and unfamiliar places feel oddly grounded.
For Chungshih, paddling abroad with friends is never just about travel.
It is a reminder that as long as the paddle moves forward, he is exactly where he needs to be.

When you’re out on the water, do you use a compass? 🌍
Lately, we’ve been experimenting with a small project—testing a compass setup during our paddling sessions.
It made us curious:
How do you usually navigate on the ocean?
📍 Landmarks?
📍 GPS or electronic devices?
📍 A chart and compass?
And stay tuned—we’ve got something new on the way. 🚀🌊
📍From Coastal Chaos to Calm Control - Laura & Amber Brought Greenland Skills to Life in Bay Area, SF 🌊🌁
Over three days in the dynamic waters of the Bay Area, two incredible coaches - Laura Zulliger and Gearlab Athlete Amber Champion - led a skill development course focused on traditional Greenland paddling.
From fundamental strokes to rolling clinics, they guided students through the nuances of Greenland technique with heart, humor, and deep respect for the tradition. 💙
We are honored to be part of this, where innovation meets heritage, and where passionate coaches carry the torch for the next generation of paddlers.
🎥 Clip by Laura - thank you for capturing this beautiful moment in motion!

🧭【How do you disassemble your paddle?】
When Robert Nissenbaum visited our Gearlab HQ, we couldn’t resist asking him to show us — how he takes apart his carbon fiber paddle.
Turns out, he nailed it effortlessly. 👏
Many paddlers struggle with the ferrule button and sometimes end up pinching their fingers. But there’s actually a super simple and safe way to do it.
Just press the ferrule button gently using the pad of your thumb — or even the base of your thumb joint. You don’t need to push hard; a small press is enough. Then, with your other hand, pull the shaft apart smoothly. That’s it!
We filmed a short clip to show you exactly how it’s done — check out the video to see both Robert’s attempt and our official technique! 🎥
