近來受到熱帶風暴（tropical storm）影響，台灣多地豪雨成災，不少地區宣布停班停課。「停班停課」英文可以說 suspend work and classes，suspend 是「暫停、中止」的意思；較口語的說法則是 call off work and classes（取消上班上課）。例如，你可以說：Typhoon days often mean work and classes are suspended.（颱風天通常意味著停班停課。）其中 suspend 強調「暫時中止、之後會恢復」，比 cancel（取消）更貼近停班停課「僅這一天暫停」的概念。

Pont du Gard: Rome’s Engineering Marvel in Provence

Spanning the Gardon River in southern France, the Pont du Gard is a breathtaking testament to the ingenuity of the ancient Roman Empire. Built in the mid-1st century AD, this monumental aqueduct bridge was a crucial link in a 50-kilometer-long system designed to carry fresh water from a spring in Uzès to the Roman colony of Nemausus (modern-day Nîmes).

Roman engineers used precise geometry to ensure the water channel at the very top dropped by a mere 2.5 centimeters over the bridge's 275-meter length—a astonishingly subtle slope that allowed gravity to do all the work.

Paxton, famous for designing London's Crystal Palace, integrated cutting-edge Victorian engineering, including a central, glass-roofed hall and an innovative central heating system.

Château d’Eu: The Summer Seat of France’s Last King
Tucked away in the northernmost corner of Normandy, near the coast of the English Channel, the Château d’Eu is a majestic brick-and-stone palace that whispers secrets of France’s last royal dynasty. While its foundations date back to a 10th-century stronghold, the elegant château seen today is largely the result of centuries of aristocratic refinement, culminating in its role as a favorite summer getaway for the French court.

The estate owes much of its grandeur to Anne Marie Louise d’Orléans (the "Grande Mademoiselle") in the 17th century, and later to King Louis-Philippe, who ruled France from 1830 to 1848. Louis-Philippe chose the Château d’Eu as his official summer residence, transforming it into a hub of international diplomacy. It was here in 1843 and 1845 that he hosted Queen Victoria, marking the first official meetings between French and British monarchs since the Field of the Cloth of Gold in 1520 and sealing the historic Entente Cordiale.
