Meet Isaya, another very special member of our maasai community
Isaya is an incredibly bubbly and energetic member of our maasai in Ngorongoro team, and those who meet him, always remember him and his cheeky smile.
Just prior to Covid, Isaya started a small project with his own savings, of supplying sanitary pads to young women in rural secondary schools around Ngorongoro. Growing up in the area, he saw first hand how much school female students were missing due to their monthly cycle, and the uneducated 'shame' that was associated with that. Whilst fellow male students could attend school every day, these girls were missing nearly 2 months of school each year.
Isaya and women's health educator, Selina, travelled to these schools and educated these girls on menstrual health, a subject rarely covered when growing up as a young Maasai girl.
We are wanting to continue Isaya's dream, to look after the whole of the Ngorongoro area and make sure female students are able to attend school 365 days of the year. One sanitary pad costs 2500 tanzanian shillings ($1 USD) and will last up to 6 months.
We are reaching out to our friends and family around the world who are able to support us, Isaya and Selina, to make yet another difference. Please contact us on [email protected] or [email protected] more information, or to make a donation to a cause that will change young women's lives.
